Soil and climate on the establishment of neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) cultivation in forestry and agroforestry systems on different Brazilian regions PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Neves, Edinelson José Maciel.
Azadirachta indica is a species of multiple uses originated from India. It belongs to Meliaceae family. This species was introduced in Brazil in 1993. The first experimental trials were established in the State of Goiás, specifically in “Cerrado” (Brazilian savanna) ecosystem. In Northern and Northwestern Brazil neem has been planted in small plots in precipitation conditions ranging from 600 mm (Petrolina, PE) to 2200 mm (Castanhal, PA). There are more cultivation in the States of São Paulo and Bahia and in Central Brazil, where precipitation ranges from 1000 to 2000 mm, especially concentrated in the summer. However, mostly of planted neem has not been based on the best indicating methodology of species, considering regional differences where adequate...

Nymphicidal effect of vegetal extracts of Annona mucosa and Anonna crassiflora (Magnoliales, Annonaceae) against rice stalk stink bug, Tibraca limbativentris (Hemiptera, Pentatomidae) Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Krinski,Diones; Massaroli,Angélica.
This study aimed to verify the chloroform-methanol nymphicidal action of extracts of Annona mucosa leaves and seeds and of A. crassiflora seeds on second instar nymphs of rice stalk stink bug, Tibraca limbativentris. For each extract the concentrations of 0.5%, 1.0%, 2.0%, 4.0%, 8.0%, and two control treatments (water and Tween80®) were used. The results show that the seed extracts of A. mucosa and A. crassiflora have insecticidal activity against the T. limbativentris nymphs with statistical significance for all concentrations when compared with controls. The seed extract of A. mucosa showed the higher toxicity with greater than 75% mortality at a concentration of 1.0% in the first 24 h after application. The leaf extract of A. mucosa presented the lowest...

Mating behavior of the predator Podisus nigrispinus (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) under exposure to neem: Comportamiento de apareamiento del depredador Podisus nigrispinus (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) expuesto al neem Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Domingues de Oliveira,Sharrine Omari; Faria Barbosa,Wagner; Vilca Malqui,Karina Soledad; Carvalho Guedes,Raul Narciso.
The preservation of natural enemies is one of the basic foundations for integrated pest management. Botanical insecticides have shown low impact on beneficial arthropods in relation to survival. Insecticides studies usually focus on the direct physiological effects of insecticides, whereas relatively little attention is placed on the behavioral response to exposure. A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of the botanical insecticide neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss.; Meliaceae) on the mating behavior of the predatory stinkbug Podisus nigrispinus (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae). Unmated 5 to 7 d-old adults, separate by sex, were exposed to azadirachtin per contact on the treated surface. The treatments were composed for: untreated male and female;...

Volcanic materials as carriers for the formulation of mycoinsecticides using the fungus Beauveria bassiana Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Sy,Victoria E; Schalamuk,Santiago; Scorsetti,Ana C; Botto,Irma L.
Improvements in the formulation of biological insecticides are crucial to increase their stability and competitiveness in the market. The aim of this work was to evaluate the use of volcanic materials with different hydric retention capacities to increase the thermotolerance of B. bassiana conidia. Two pyroclastic rocks and a zeolite clinoptilolite were selected for this study. In addition, a commercial silica gel was used due to its reported capacity to increase conidial thermotolerance. Dry conidia were mixed with the materials to obtain a 2% w/w granular formulation, while conidial powder alone served as the control. Mixtures were stored at room temperature for 30 days and then exposed to 50 °C for two hours, and the viability was measured before and...
