Do drivers of forestry vehicles also drive herb layer changes (1970-2015) in a temperate forest with contrasting habitat and management conditions? ArchiMer
Closset-kopp, Déborah; Hattab, Tarek; Decocq, Guillaume.
1.Managing ecosystems effectively for the maintenance of biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services requires to understand how these ecosystems are changing and what are the drivers behind these changes. The resurvey of plant communities sampled some decades ago is increasingly used for this purpose. 2.We used a life history trait‐based approach to test a number of hypothesized drivers behind decadal changes (1970‐2015) in the herb layer of an ancient broadleaved lowland forest exhibiting contrasted soil and management types, whilst minimizing potential relocation and observer errors. 3.Process‐based hypotheses were tested using paired comparisons (old vs new records) of community weighted means and conditional inference classification trees for a...

Trait‐based approach to monitoring marine benthic data along 500 km of coastline ArchiMer
Boyé, Aurelien; Thiébaut, Éric; Grall, Jacques; Legendre, Pierre; Broudin, Caroline; Houbin, Céline; Le Garrec, Vincent; Maguer, Marion; Droual, Gabin; Gauthier, Olivier.
Aim β diversity and its linkages with ecosystem functioning remain poorly documented. This impedes our capacity to predict biodiversity changes and how they affect ecosystem functioning at scales relevant for conservation. Here, we address the functional implications of ongoing seafloor changes by characterizing at regional scale the taxonomic and functional α and β diversities of benthic habitats currently threatened by biotic homogenization. Location Western Europe. Methods Combining a trait‐based approach to benthic community monitoring data covering a 7‐year period and 500 km of coast, we explored the mechanisms governing community assembly in habitats associated with two types of foundation species, intertidal seagrass and subtidal maerl beds,...

From forests to cattail: how does the riparian zone influence stream fish? Neotropical Ichthyology
Casatti,Lilian; Teresa,Fabrício Barreto; Gonçalves-Souza,Thiago; Bessa,Eduardo; Manzotti,Angelo Rodrigo; Gonçalves,Cristina da Silva; Zeni,Jaquelini de Oliveira.
The aim of this study was to verify whether taxonomic and functional composition of stream fishes vary under three different preservation conditions of riparian zone: preserved (PRE), intermediate condition (INT), and degraded (DEG). Five stream stretches representing each condition were selected. Samples were taken from each stream in three occasions during the dry seasons from 2004 to 2007. Electro fishing (PRE and INT), sieves, dip nets, and hand seines (DEG) were used according to the characteristics of each sampled site. Overall, 46 species were registered. Differences in the taxonomic and functional species composition among groups were found, following the condition of riparian zones. The ichthyofauna recorded in the PRE was typical to pristine...
