| Otiorhynchus apenninus, a new weevil for the Netherlands (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) Otiorhynchus apenninus (= O. salicicola) is reported for the first time from the Netherlands. The species was collected in a garden at Hoofddorp (Noord-Holland), Rijswijk (Zuid-Holland) and in and around a garden at Heemstede (Noord-Holland). The species appeared to be present at the locality at Heemstede for several successive years, despite an attempt to eradicate it. We therefore conclude that O. apenninus must be considered as established in the Netherlands. Some data are presented on the European distribution and host plants of the species. Illustrations of the male and female genitalia are provided. |

| Cylisticus convexus, a rare synanthropic woodlouse in The Netherlands (Crustacea: Isopoda: Cylisticidae) Until recently, the occurrence of Cylisticus convexus (De Geer, 1778) in the Netherlands was uncertain. The only certain old record dates from March 1927, when the species was collected at the coal-shed of the Zoological Museum at Amsterdam. During the last years, two specimens have been collected on semi-natural sites. Both were found on a dike, one near Everdingen, in the province of Gelderland, and one near Ritthem, in the province of Zeeland. These are the first records of C. convexus in the field. | The fieldcricket Gryllus campestris in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen (Orthoptera) In 1997 and 2000 some fieldcrickets (Gryllus campestris) were observed in a grassland within a forest (Clingse Bos) in Zeeuws- Vlaanderen. These are the first records since the 1950’s in this area. Because no fieldcrickets were observed in 1998 and 1999 it is thought that the animals have migrated from a nearby population just across the Belgian border. The topsoil of the grassland has been removed locally to expose the sandy soil, to increase the chances for the fieldcricket to establish a population. Together with the rediscovery of a population in Schouwen the future for the fieldcricket in the southwest of the Netherlands looks a bit more promising. |

| Distribution and ecology of the chironomid Glyptotendipes ospeli in the Netherlands (Diptera: Chironomidae) This paper adresses the ecology, biology and distribution of the larvae of the chironomid Glyptotendipes ospeli Contreras-Lichtenberg, 1999. No information is available on the ecology and biology of the adults. Glyptotendipes ospeli was described in 1999 after larvae collected in Amsterdam (the Netherlands) had been reared to adults. There is only one record from outside the Netherlands: a larva collected in Pripyat River (Belarus). In the Netherlands, larvae of this species have so far been recorded on 36 localities. | A new record of Microdon devius in the central part of the province of Limburg (Diptera: Syrphidae) In 1997 a male of the hoverfly Microdon devius (Linnaeus, 1761) was collected near Weert, in the central part of the province of Limburg in the Netherlands. The only other record from the same area was from the Meynweg in 1990. The nearest population in the Netherlands of this rare species is found in the southernmost part of Limburg. The heath vegetation at the site near Weert harbours a relatively large population of the ant Lasius flavus, the possible host of the larvae of M. devius. |

| Beschermingsplan moerassprinkhaan & zompsprinkhaan in Gelderland Sprinkhanen en krekels horen tot de best bekende insecten van Nederland. Sommige soorten sprinkhanen breiden zich in rap tempo uit (sikkelsprinkhaan, zuidelijk spitskopje) en recent zijn zelfs weer nieuwe soorten voor de Nederlandse fauna gevonden (lichtgroene sabelsprinkhaan, boomkrekel). Het lijkt daarmee goed te gaan met de Nederlandse sprinkhanen, maar tegenover de nieuwkomers staan diverse soorten die bedreigd zijn of zelfs al uit Nederland zijn verdwenen. In tegenstelling tot de weinig kieskeurige nieuwkomers zijn de bedreigde soorten aangewezen op bijzondere habitats. | The syrphid genus Callicera in the Netherlands and Belgium (Diptera: Syrphidae) In Europe six species of Callicera are known. Until recently C. aenea, rufa and fagesii were known from both the Netherlands and Belgium. The authors have studied all available material and have gathered field data. In this paper C. aurata is presented for the first time from the Netherlands. Nine females and one male were observed in south of the province of Limburg. All Belgian specimens of C. aenea proved to be C. aurata (pers. com. L. Verlinden). This means that C. aurata has to be added to the Belgian list and C. aenea has to be eliminated. |

| The molluscs of the brackish waters in the Netherlands (Mollusca) The Netherlands is a river delta rich in brackish waters. The organisms in these waters need to be adapted to extreme conditions, especially large fluctuations in chlorinity. However, several species occur optimally in this habitat. In this paper a review is presented of the molluscs living in brackish waters in the Netherlands. All available data from literature, collections, literature and databanks were compiled for this cause. In The Netherlands a large variety of brackish waters can be found, like lakes, canals, old creeks, shallow pools, lagoons, estuaries and dykes. | De Nederlandse soorten van het dansvliegengeslacht Hilara (Diptera: Empididae) In deze studie wordt alle beschikbare informatie over het dansvliegengeslacht Hilara samengevat. Door kritisch literatuur-, collectie- en veldonderzoek werden 57 soorten voor de Nederlandse fauna vastgesteld, waarvan er hier maar liefst 13 voor de eerste maal gemeld worden. Zes van de 57 soorten zijn beschreven op basis van Nederlandse collectiemateriaal. Er zullen weinig insectengenera zijn waarvan meer dan 10% van de Nederlandse soorten uit Nederland beschreven zijn. | Bijen en graafwespen langs kanaal Almelo-Nordhorn met aandacht voor andere insecten In 2001 hebben medewerkers van EIS-Nederland in opdracht van de Provincie Overijssel een inventarisatie uitgevoerd van de bijen- en graafwespenfauna van Kanaal Almelo-Nordhorn. Er zijn 56 soorten bijen en 26 soorten graafwespen gevonden. Hieronder zijn twee bijzondere bijen (Andrena gravida en Lasioglossum fratellum) en drie bijzondere graafwespen (Ectemnius lituratus, Mimesa bruxellensis en Mimumesa beaumonti).
