Extended excessive alcohol use causes changes in bone tissue, thus affecting osteogenesis. The objective of this study was to evaluate if demineralized bone matrix (Gen-ox®) associated with bone morphogenetic protein (Gen-pro®) changes bone neoformation in rats submitted to experimental alcoholism. Forty male rats (Rattus norvegicus) were separated into 2 groups of 20 animals each: Group E1, which received ethyl alcohol at 25% and had the surgical cavity filled in only with blood clot; and Group E2, which received ethyl alcohol at 25% and had the surgical cavity filled in with demineralized bovine cortical bone associated with bone morphogenetic protein. The animals were submitted to a three-week period of gradual adaptation to alcohol, and then continued... |

The aim of this study was to evaluate the calcium dosage of the newly formed bone, in critical bone defects created on the calvarial tissue and filled by different substances, in male Wistar rats. A cylindrical critical bone defect (6x2mm) was created in the posterior portion, left side, on the calvarial bone in nine animals and filled with: animals' coagulum, monoolein gel, poloxamer gel, monoolein gel + 1µg rhBMP-2, monoolein gel + 3µg rhBMP-2, monoolein gel + 7µg rhBMP-2, poloxamer gel + 1µg rhBMP-2, poloxamer gel + 3µg rhBMP-2, poloxamer gel + 7µg rhBMP-2. The results of this study showed a positive correlation between the calcium dosage analysis and the newly formed bone |

It has been demonstrated that carbon nanotubes (CNTs) associated with sodium hyaluronate (HY-CNTs) accelerate bone repair in the tooth sockets of rats. Before clinical application of HY-CNTs, it is important to assess their biocompatibility. Moreover, cardiac toxicity may be caused by the translocation of these particles to the blood stream. The aim of this study was to evaluate possible changes in cardiovascular function in male Wistar rats whose tooth sockets were treated with either CNTs or HY-CNTs (100 μg/mL, 0.1 mL). Blood pressure and heart rate were monitored in conscious rats 7 days after treatment. Cardiac function was evaluated using the Langendorff perfusion technique. The data showed no changes in blood pressure or heart rate in rats treated... |
