The work was carried out to study the effects of some auxins and boron in the rooting of kiwi (Actinidia chinensis Planch cv Bruno) stem cuttings.. These cuttings were treated on the base individually with H2O; NAA 300 mg.L-1; IBA 300 mg.L-1; NAA 300 mg.L-1 + Boron; IBA 300 mg.L-1 + Boron; NAA 0,5%-talc and IBA 0,5%-talc. After the treatments, the cuttings were placed in styrofoam trays with vermiculite under moist conditions for 120 days. The evaluation of auxin and boric acid effects were made by observing rooted stem cuttings percentage; reducing and total sugar analysis (g/100 g of dry matter); and tryptophan analysis (in µg/100 mg of dry matter). The effects of such treatments were observed during four seasons of the year. The results showed that... |

Boron (B) is an essential micronutrient showing restricted mobility in plants, except in species that synthesize polyols. The ability of kiwifruit to mobilize B through phloem transport has not yet been confirmed, despite its ability to synthesize the polyol myo-inositol. This study examined kiwifruit plants in which boric acid enriched with the stable 10B isotope was applied to the distal leaves of mixed shoots with flowers. At 24, 72 and 144 h, both 10B-treated and un-treated leaves and flowers from treated shoots were sampled and subsequently analyzed via mass spectrometry to determine the resulting 11B/10B ratios. Control leaves and flowers showed a natural ratio, varying between 3.82 and 4.05. In contrast, the ratios in treated leaves were 1.57 at 24... |

The effect of foliar boron treatments on fruit growth and seed development in Actinidia deliciosa, cv. Hayward, was studied. The distal leaves (BH) or fowers (BF) of a shoot were sprayed with 500 mg L-1 boric acid during the fowering period. The mobility of boron from the leaves to the fowers through the phloem was determined by spraying only the leaves. From 0 to 96 h after treatment, leaves and fowers were sampled and total boron was assessed. At harvest time, fruit weight and diameter plus seed weight and number were measured for the different treatments. The weight of fruits growing from shoots with boron-treated leaves were 14.1% higher than the control, while the weight of fruits derived from boron-treated fowers was 17% higher than that of fruits... |

H. Escobar, N. Lara, Y. Zapata, C. Urbina, M. Rodriguez, and L. Figueroa. 2013. Saline-boron stress in northern Chile olive accessions: water relations, B and Cl contents and impact on plant growth. Cien. Inv. Agr. 40(3): 597-607. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of saline-boron stress on the vegetative growth, dry leaf weight, water potential (Ψw), relative water content, and leaf and root B and Cl- contents in 8 accessions of olive. Rooted one-year-old plants were cultivated for 132 days with 50% shading in 5-L pots containing sand substrate and watered with Jensen's nutrient solution. After eight days of uniform ferti-irrigation, the plants were exposed to saline-boron stress, which was administered in three successive... |

Boron (B) is a low mobility plant micronutrient whose molecular mechanisms of absorption and translocation are still controversial. Many factors are involved in tolerance to Boron excess or deficiency. Recently, the first protein linked to boron transport in biological systems, BOR1, was characterized in Arabidopsis thaliana. This protein is involved in boron xylem loading and is similar to bicarbonate transporters found in animals. There are indications that BOR1 is a member of a conserved protein family in plants. In this work, FORESTS database was used to identify sequences similar to this protein family, looking for a probable BOR1 homolog in eucalypt. We found five consensus sequences similar to BOR1; three of them were then used in multiple alignment... |
