Brachiopods from the Valdeteja Formation (Pennsylvanian; Cantabrian Mountains, NW Spain) Naturalis
Martínez Chacón, M.L.; Winkler Prins, C.P..
After a short introduction on the lower Pennsylvanian (Bashkirian to lowermost Moscovian)Valdeteja Formation in its stratigraphical context, an overview of its brachiopod faunas is presented and their palaeoecological and palaeogeographic importance discussed. Two new genera of the Strophalosiidina, showing adaptations to a reef environment, are described. The genus Ovetina (type species O. truyolsi gen. et sp. nov.) is an aulostegid with a well developed ventral flange. Miroproductus (type species M. posadai gen. et sp. nov.) is an early richthofenioid, probably derived from an aulostegid such as Institina MUIR-WOOD & COOPER, 1960.

Brachiopod and fusulinid assemblages of Kasimovian (Pennsylvanian) age from the Ándara Massif (Picos de Europa, northern Spain) Naturalis
Martínez Chacón, M.L.; Merino-Tomé, O.A.; Villa, E..
The analysis of early Kasimovian (Pennsylvanian) brachiopod assemblages from two fossiliferous localities of the Las Llacerias Formation (Ándara Massif, Picos de Europa, northern Spain) improve our knowledge of this fossil group in the Cantabrian Zone. At the Morra de Lechugales Peak (locality 1), marlstones and bioclastic limestones, accumulated in a low energy, subtidal, aphotic setting, characterize a soft muddy sea-floor affected by periodic intense bottom currents and provide a rich assemblage of brachiopods together with other macrofossils. Brachiopod specimens are characterized by their small size (<10 mm) and belong to 38 different taxa. The fossiliferous dark marly limestones at the Castillo del Grajal (locality 2) record a very shallow water,...

An outer-ramp brachiopod assemblage from the uppermost San Juan Formation (middle Arenig), northern Argentine Precordillera: paleoecologic and biogeographic implications Ameghiniana
Benedetto,Juan L.; Cech,Norma.
Rhynchonelliformean brachiopods from the Arenig outer-ramp carbonate facies exposed at the Guandacol-Gualcamayo depocenter (northern Precordillera basin) include the new species Orthidium guandacolensis , Taffia ( Chaloupskia ) minima and Leptella ( Petroria ) ventrocristata . Associated taxa are Archaeorthis sp., Ffynnonia sp. and Tritoechia ( Tritoechia ) sp. The overlying basinal black shales (Gualcamayo Formation) have yielded Pelonomia ? sp. On the basis of the age of Ffynnonia occurrences in western Gondwana it is suggested that this genus migrated from the Famatina back-arc basin to the open platform waters of the northern Precordillera basin and then to shallower water settings of the carbonate ramp located to the south (in present coordinates)....

Taphonomy of Bouchardia rosea (Rhynchonelliformea, Brachiopoda) shells from Ubatuba Bay, Brazil: implications for the use of taphonomic signatures in (paleo)environmental analysis Ameghiniana
Rodrigues,Sabrina Coelho; Simões,Marcello Guimarães.
This study analyzes taphonomic alteration of brachiopod shells, i.e., Bouchardia rosea (Mawe) from Ubatuba Bay, northern coast of São Paulo State, Brazil. The average age of the studied shell deposits is 674 years BP. The underlying hypothesis is that taphonomic signatures are not uniformly distributed along a bathymetric gradient. Assemblages were sampled using a Van Veen grab sampler (31 x 40cm) along transect of fourteen stations from zero (beach) to 35 m water depth. Four sedimentary environments were recognized: (a) beach, (b) protected bay with clay bottom, (c) protected bay with sandy bottom, and (d) inner shelf with sandy bottom. All brachiopod shells (i.e., total fraction including fragments) from each of the five stations with appreciable...

Early Silurian (Rhuddanian) brachiopods from the Argentine Precordillera and their biogeographic affinities Ameghiniana
Benedetto,Juan L.; Cocks,L. Robin M..
A brachiopod fauna dominated by Hindella crassa (J. de C. Sowerby), and also including an indeterminate pseudolinguloid, Leangella (Leangella) america sp. nov., Eoplectodonta (Eoplectodonta) duplicata (J. de C. Sowerby), Fardenia sp., Glyptorthis vidari (Baarli)., Dolerorthis plicata (J. de C. Sowerby), an indeterminate giraldiellid, Dalmanella sp., and Stegerhynchus pusillum (J. de C. Sowerby), is described from the La Chilca Formation exposed at Mogotes Azules, San Juan Province, Argentina. The age of the fauna is Early Silurian (Llandovery: Rhuddanian) and it is compared with other Rhuddanian brachiopod faunas both from Gondwana and elsewhere. The brachiopod faunas of Gondwana, despite their relatively low diversity, had much in common with those from...
