Development of new CMS lines by backcrossing was conducted at Suphan Buri Rice Research Center during 2005-2011. The objective was to develop Thai elite breeding lines to be better varieties of CMS lines adapted to the environment in Thailand. The new CMS lines will be used for research project on hybrid rice production. CMS lines from IRRI were used as donor in repeated backcrossing of 6-7 generations to the recurrent parent, Thai elite breeding line. After seven generations of repeated backcrossing two new CMS lines, SPR06186A (IR58025A/7*SPR98015-59-1-2-2-2) and SPR06189A (IR73328A/7*SPR98015-59-1-2-2-2), were developed. These two lines have one hundred percent of pollen sterility and similar agronomic traits to the recurrent parent. SPR06186A has a... |
