Evaluation of sample preparation methods and optimization of nickel determination in vegetable tissues Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Salazar,Rodrigo Fernando dos Santos; Alcântara,Marco Aurélio Kondracki de; Izário Filho,Hélcio José.
Nickel, although essential to plants, may be toxic to plants and animals. It is mainly assimilated by food ingestion. However, information about the average levels of elements (including Ni) in edible vegetables from different regions is still scarce in Brazil. The objectives of this study were to: (a) evaluate and optimize a method for preparation of vegetable tissue samples for Ni determination; (b) optimize the analytical procedures for determination by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (FAAS) and by Electrothermal Atomic Absorption (ETAAS) in vegetable samples and (c) determine the Ni concentration in vegetables consumed in the cities of Lorena and Taubaté in the Vale do Paraíba, State of São Paulo, Brazil. By means of the analytical technique for...

Thermal treatment of aluminous phosphates of the crandallite group and its effect on phosphorus solubility Scientia Agricola
Francisco,Eros Artur Bohac; Prochnow,Luís Ignácio; Toledo,Maria Cristina Motta de; Ferrari,Viviane Carillo; Jesus,Sérgio Luís de.
Optimization in the use of phosphate rocks is important and the residues of fertilizer production in the form of crandallite may be suitable for agronomic use after calcination. With the objective of evaluating the effect of thermal treatment of the aluminous phosphates of the crandallite group as related to solubility, crystalline structure and morphology, samples from the mine residues of three Brazilian phosphate deposits (Tapira-MG, Catalão-GO, and Juquiá-SP) were collected, air-dried, and screened to 100 mesh. Sub samples were thermally treated at 300, 500, 700, and 900°C for 2 hours. Treated and untreated materials were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electronic microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry, and for the total and soluble P...

Analytical methods comparison for soil organic carbon determination in Andean Forest of Sangay National Park-Ecuador Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Cargua Catagña,Franklin Enrique; Rodríguez Llerena,Marco Vinicio; Damián Carrión,Diego Armando; Recalde Moreno,Celso Guillermo; Santillán Lima,Guido Patricio.
Abstract A relationship among total organic carbon content determined by ignition loss (LOI) and DUMAS combustion methods, were perfomed in evergreen Andean eyebrow forest soils, southwestern zone of Sangay National Park- Ecuador, where three conglomerates were established as follows: (C) with five plots (P) with plots of 20 x 20 m. In each plot, five digging trenches and four soil samples were carried out at different depths: 0-10, 10-20, 20-30 and> 30 cm, respectively. It is observed that the amount of total organic carbon obtained by the DUMAS and LOI method (R2 = 0.99) does not differ significantly. However, the DUMAS total organic carbon determination methodology showed greater precision with regard to LOI, thus becoming a good alternative to be...
