There is controversy about the benefits of silicon (Si) on tomato plants. This element has structural and metabolic functions in the physiology of plants, generating benefits that may result in increased productivity of various plant species. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the phytotechnical characteristics and the productivity of tomato plants according to the rates and sources of Si. The design was established in randomized blocks with factorial 3x5, corresponding to three sources of silicate (calcium silicate, potassium silicate and sodium silicate) and five doses of Si (equivalent to 0, 100, 200, 400 and 800 kg ha-1 of SiO2). The fertilization with Si increased the commercial productivity of tomato plants and reduced the occurrence of... |

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of calcium silicate (CaSiO3) and of the activator acibenzolar-S-methyl (BTH) on resistance induction in cucumber, against the whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) biotype B. Antibiosis, free-choice and no-choice preference tests were conducted in a greenhouse and at laboratory of the, Departamento de Entomologia of the Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA), MG, Brazil. The design was completely randomized, with the following treatments: 1) control; 2) application of 3 g calcium silicate.kg-1 of substrate; 3) two 200ml applications of 1% calcium silicate solution per pot; 4) two 100ml applications of 0.005% BTH solution per pot; and 5) application of calcium silicate and BTH at the rates used for... |

Application of calcium silicate (SiCa) as soil acidity corrective was evaluated in a Rhodic Hapludox soil with palisade grass conducted under pasture rotation system with different grazing intensities. Experimental design was complete randomized blocks with four grazing intensities - grazing intensities were imposed by forage supply (50, 100, 150 and 200 kg t-1 of DM per LW) - in experimental plots with four replicates and, in the subplots, with seven doses of calcium silicate combined with lime: 0+0, 2+0, 4+0, 6+0, 2+4, 4+2 and 0+6 t ha-1, respectively. In the soil, it was evaluated the effect of four levels of calcium silicate (0, 2, 4 and 6 t ha-1) at 45, 90, and 365 days at three depths (0-10, 10-20 and 20-40 cm) and at 365 days, it was included one... |

The beneficial effects of silicon (Si) fertilization have been observed for several plant species, especially when submitted to stress, either biotic or abiotic. Among the possible reasons for the greater adaptability and resistance of brachiaria grass in areas of low fertility soils in Brazilian savanna, stands its capacity of absorbing and accumulating Si in aerial parts. To evaluate the effect of Si on dry matter yield of Brachiaria decumbens Stapf and Brachiaria brizantha Hochst, grown under two soil moisture regimes, a trial was set up in a completely randomized design factorial scheme (5 × 2 × 2), with five Si rates: (0; 242; 484; 968 and 1,452 kg ha-1), two soil water tensions (60% and 80% of field capacity) and the two brachiaria species. The... |

Research on anatomical modifications under in vitro culture is essential to the definition and understanding of the development of micropropagated plants. Likewise, such research is essential to improve the steps of the acclimatization process. Accordingly, the objective of the present study is to verify the differences in the leaves anatomical traits of micropropagated orchids under calcium silicate concentrations. Seedlings of in vitro-germinated seeds, measuring 0.5 cm in length, were inoculated in 250 cm3 pots with 60 mL MS culture medium and different silicon concentrations (0, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mg L-1) in different culture environments (natural environment, in a greenhouse and an artificial environment in a growth chamber) and in all statistical... |
