ESTIMATING VEGETATION VOLUME OF COFFEE CROPS USING IMAGES FROM UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES REA
Cunha,João P. A. R. da; Sirqueira Neto,Matheus A.; Hurtado,Sandro M. C..
ABSTRACT Tree crops, such as Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica L.), present enormous technical challenges in terms of pesticide application. The correct deposition and distribution of the active ingredient throughout the aerial part of these plants depends on knowledge of the canopy volume, but manually determining this volume is time consuming and imprecise. The objectives of this study were to develop a method to determine the vegetation volume of coffee crops from digital images captured by camera onboard unmanned aerial vehicles and to compare this approach with traditional vegetation volume estimation (tree row volume (TRV) method). Manual measurements of the canopy volume of four coffee cultivation areas were compared with data obtained using the method...

Genetic gains in physic nut using selection indexes PAB
Bhering,Leonardo Lopes; Laviola,Bruno Galvêas; Salgado,Caio Césio; Sanchez,Carlos Felipe Barrera; Rosado,Tatiana Barbosa; Alves,Alexandre Alonso.
The objective of this work was to estimate genetic gains in physic nut (Jatropha curcas) using selection indexes and to establish the best selection strategy for the species. Direct and indirect selection was carried out using different selection indexes, totalizing 14 strategies. One hundred and seventy five families from the active germplasm bank of Embrapa Agroenergy, Brasília, Brazil, were analyzed in a randomized complete block design with two replicates. The evaluated traits were: grain yield; seeds per fruit; endosperm/seed ratio; seed weight, length, width, and thickness; branches per plant at 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 m; plant height; stem diameter; canopy projection on rows and between lines; canopy volume; juvenility (days to the first flowering); and...

Water status and productivity of 'Hass' avocado trees in response to supplemental irrigation during winter PAB
Cantuarias-Avilés,Tatiana; Silva,Simone Rodrigues da; Angolini,Sérgio Figueiredo; Brogio,Bruna do Amaral; Baptista,Edypol Guilherme; Micheletti,Lígia Broglio.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of supplemental irrigation, during winter dry season, on the water status and productivity of 'Hass' avocado (Persea Americana) trees. The experiment was carried out on a clayey Oxisol from 2014 to 2016, when extreme climatic events were recorded in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The rainfed regime was compared with two irrigation regimes, applied during the whole and half of the irrigation run time defined by the grower, corresponding to 5,091 and 2,545 m3 ha-1 water, respectively. The following variables were evaluated: soil water tension; leaf water potential, color, and chlorophyll content; leaf and fruit abscission rates; tree size; and fruit size and yield. Supplemental irrigation...
