Species of shrimps are revised based on bibliographic information and on specimens collected with an Agassiz trawl (AGT) during the PUCK-156 Expedition (2001) onboard R/V Sonne in three areas along Chilean coast; off Antofagasta (22° lat. S), off Concepción (36°lat. S) and off Chiloé (42° lat. S). 111 specimens belonging to 12 species were collected, including three new records for the Chilean fauna; Metacrangon procax, Nematocarcinus productus, and Merhyppolite sp. aff. M. americana. Presence of Nematocarcinus lanceopes, Lebbeus antarcticus, Pandalopsis ampla and Sclerocrangon atrox in the collected material allows extension of their distributional ranges from sub-Antarctic to temperate areas |

A taxonomic review of the two genera of the family Alvinocarididae (Decapoda: Caridea), Rimicaris Williams and Rona, 1986 and Chorocaris Martin and Hessler 1990, is presented based on study of type materials and/or supplemental material from recent collections. Two species of Rimicaris, R. exoculata Williams and Rona 1986 and R. kairei Watabe and Hashimoto 2002, and three species of Chorocaris, C. chacei Williams and Rona 1986, C. vandoverae Martin and Hessler 1990, and C. paulexa Martin and Shank 2005, are recognized. All species are exclusively associated with deep-water hydrothermal community. Close relationship between the two genera is confirmed by morphological characters, but the monophyly of Chorocaris is not corroborated. An examination of a good... |

The bathypelagic shrimp genus Pasiphaea Savigny, 1816 (Caridea: Pasiphaeidae) has been previously known from Taiwan from only three species. However, recent deep-sea surveys around the island have collected numerous specimens comprising ten species, of which four are new to science: P. aeons n. sp., P alcocki (Wood-Mason and Alcock, 1891), P exilimanus n. sp., P. falx n. sp., P japonica Omori, 1976, P. mclaughlinae Hayashi, 2006, P levicarinata Hanamura, 1994, P orientalis Schmitt, 1931, P. sirenkoi Burukovsky, 1987 and P. taiwanica n. sp. The four new species are fully described and illustrated, and compared with allied congeners. Pasiphaea orientalis is redescribed, as this species is endemic to Taiwan and its original description is inadequate. Amongst... |

A new species of freshwater palaemonid prawn, Macrobrachium oxyphilus spec, nov., is described from highly acidic blackwaters in a peat swamp forest in Selangor, Peninsular Malaysia. The species differs from its nearest congener, M. trompii (de Man, 1898), in having proportionately smaller eyes, shorter scaphocerites, a lesser number of ventral rostral teeth, a more inflated carapace, and less pubescent and more spiniferous chelipeds. |

Fourteen species of shrimps belonging to four genera of the family Atyidae are reported from the Fiji Islands. Three genera are represented by only one species each: Antecaridina lauensis (Edmondson, 1935), Atyoida pilipes (Newport, 1847) and Atyopsis spinipes (Newport, 1847) while the fourth, Caridina is represented by eleven species (including one new, Caridina devaneyi spec. nov. which is described and illustrated). Keys are provided to separate the genera and species. Two species, Caridina japonica De Man, 1892 and C. longirostris H. Milne Edwards, 1837 are recorded from Fiji for the first time. C. devaneyi spec, nov., C. fijiana Choy, 1983 and C. nudirostris Choy, 1984 are so far known only from Fiji and may be endemic to the island of Viti Levu. All... |

During the NNM/Maluku Expedition 1996, in the framework of the NNM Fauna Malesiana Marine Program, a shrimp belonging to the species Periclimenes imperator Bruce, 1967, was found on a nudibranch while diving at 20 m depth in Seri Bay, on the south coast of Ambon. Periclimens imperator has been recorded throughout the tropical Indo-West Pacific, from East Africa and the Red Sea to Hawaii, from nudibranch and holothurian hosts. The nudibranch was identified as Chromodorus magnifica (Quoy & Gaimard, 1832) (see Rudman, 1982: 216-219, figs. 17A, B, 18, 19). The association with Chromodorus magnifica is recorded here for the first time. |

This study deals with Caridean fauna living between the leaves of New-Caledonian seagrassmeadows (Cymodocea sp. principally) from zero to about eight meters and sampled during day and night. Twenty species (all figured) were caught (excluding Alpheidae). All are known. Nevertheless, in some cases, small variations have been observed by comparison with the same species from other areas. Presently, 70 species are recognized from New-Caledonian marine waters, including the 17 species reported in this papier for the first time from that region. Comparison with Caridean fauna of seagrass-meadows of other areas (Australia, Japan, Madagascar) shows a very important resemblance between them. |

Two new species, Palaemonella aliska spec. nov. and Vir longidactylus spec. nov. are described from Nhatrang Bay, Vietnam. Palaemonella aliska spec. nov., collected from the holes burrowed by Alpheus cf. bellulus Miya & Miyake, 1969 and an unidentified goby, clearly diff ering from the remained species of the genus by its highly developed dorsal rostral carina, reaching to the mid-lenght of the carapace, and the presence of three well developed dorsal teeth situated on the carapace posterior to the orbital margin. Vir longidactylus spec. nov., collected on colonies of the caryophyllid coral Physogyra lichtensteini Edwards & Haime, 1851, diff ers from all species of the genus by its highly produced sharp molar process of the mandible and the... |

A new species of Palaemon, P. vicinus spec. nov., is described from the tropical eastern Atlantic. The new species is very close to P. elegans Rathke, 1837, under which name it was previously recorded from West Africa. Palaemon vicinus spec. nov. is easily separated from P. elegans by possessing a small tooth on the fifth abdominal pleuron (quadrate in P. elegans) and by having 2-3 rows of setae in the grooming brush of the fifth pereiopod (4-5 in P. elegans). The discovery of the new species amongst material identified as P. elegans further highlights the need to reassess species level characters in the genus Palaemon. |
