Anatomy and Variations of the Celiac Trunk International Journal of Morphology
Petrella,Selma; Rodriguez,Celio Fernando de Sousa; Sgrott,Emerson Alexandre; Fernandes,Geraldo José Medeiros; Marques,Sergio Ricardo; Prates,José Carlos.
The aim of this study was to analyze anatomy of the celiac trunk through its diameter, length, emission and variation of its branches. Sixty-nine cadavers fixed in 10% formalin solution were dissected in the anatomy laboratories of the Federal University of Sao Paulo (UNIFESP/EPM), Lusiadas of Santos University (UNILUS) and Santo Amaro University (UNISA) and 20 non-fixed cadavers from Death Verification Services, of the Sao Paulo University (USP) and Federal University of Sao Paulo (UNIFESP/EPM). Dissection of the trunk celiac of these cadavers was performed after opening of the peritoneal cavity. The obtained results allowed us to conclude the following: 1) Mensuration of the length from the celiac trunk up to its first branch, the left gastric and/or...

Relationship of the Celiac Trunk with Median Arcuate Ligament of the Diaphragm International Journal of Morphology
Petrella,Selma; Rodriguez,Celio Fernando de Sousa; Sgrott,Emerson Alexandre; Fernandes,Geraldo José Medeiros; Marques,Sergio Ricardo; Prates,José Carlos.
In the present study different positions of the median arcuate ligament in relation to the celiac trunk as well as measurements of overlap and distance, also the approach between the two structures were investigated. In addition histological studies of the diaphragm crura and the median arcuate ligament were performed. Sixty-three cadavers fixed in formalin 10% aqueous solution and 20 non-fixed adult cadavers of both sexes were studied. Dissections of the celiac trunk were performed after dissection of the peritoneal cavity in the laboratories of the Anatomy Division of the UNIFESP-EPM, UNILUS and UNISA, and during necropsies in the City Morgue of the UNIFESP-EPM and USP. Regarding morphological analysis under light microscopy, three non-fixed cadavers...

Multiple Vascular Anomalies in the Abdomen: A Gross Anatomical Study International Journal of Morphology
Jacob,Tony; Modgil,Vishal; Rana,Kum Kum; Das,Srijit.
Knowledge of the branching pattern of the abdominal aorta is clinically important for any abdominal surgeon operating on parts of the gut or neighboring structures like the suprarenals, spleen, pancreas, liver, kidneys and uréter. The presence of abnormal inferior phrenic artery associated with aberrant branch from the celiac trunk supplying the pancreas and duodenum is a rare anomaly. In the present case, we observed four branches of the celiac artery i.e. (a) left gastric artery (b) common hepatic artery (c) splenic artery and (d) an aberrant branch, which took a course inferiorly towards the pancreas. The aberrant artery supplied the body of the pancreas and gave a branch which supplied the horizontal part of the duodenum and then entered the transverse...

Accessory Hepatic Artery Arising from Celiac Trunk: An Incidence in a Thai Cadaver International Journal of Morphology
Chanasong,Rachanee; Putiwat,Phongpitak; Roboon,Jureepon; Sakulsak,Natthiya.
An exhaustive knowledge of the liver vascular patterns as well as possible anatomical variations is significant in the planning and performance of all liver surgical procedures in order for the vascularity not to be disturbed or not causing necrosis of the liver parenchyma postoperatively. The celiac trunk usually provides three branches; left gastric, splenic and common hepatic arteries. The left and right hepatic arteries generally derive from proper hepatic artery which is a branch of common hepatic artery. To study the incidence of celiac trunk ramification, the branching patterns of the celiac trunk of 23 Thai cadavers (17 males, 6 females) were documented during routine dissection by medical students at the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medical...

Variant Anatomy of the Celiac Trunk and its Branches International Journal of Morphology
Sankar K,Devi; Bhanu P,Sharmila; Susan,P. J.
The knowledge of abdominal vascular anatomy is very important for surgeons and radiologists to perform many of the clinical diagnostic evaluations. The celiac trunk, one of the branches of the abdominal aorta shows numerous variations in its branching pattern and its branches. The present study is to demonstrate the rare branching pattern of celiac trunk, into hepatogastric and hepatosplenic trunks. The hepatogastric trunk divided into left gastric and accessory left hepatic arteries and the hepatosplenic into common hepatic and splenic artery. The inferior phrenic artery was arising from left gastric artery. The gastroduodenal artery divided into right gastroepiploic artery and a common trunk for right gastric and anterior superior pancreaticoduodenal...
