A Single High Dose of Chlorpyrifos Reduces Long-Term Basal C-Fos Expression in the Rat Arcuate Hypothalamic Nucleus International Journal of Morphology
Carvajal,F; Lerma-Cabrera,J. M; Sánchez-Amate,M. C; Cubero,I.
Chlorpyrifos (CPF) is an organophosphate compound used worldwide as a pesticide in agriculture that, after subcutaneous injection, keeps acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity inhibited within an organism for months. Ample clinical and experimental evidence shows that CPF exposure induces relevant and persistent neurobehavioral deficits in humans and animals, even after one single episode/injection. Additionally, clinical and epidemiological studies evidence that a significant percentage (60%) of Gulf War veterans as well as agricultural workers suffering from acute OP intoxication may have developed intolerance to nicotine and ethanol-containing beverages. Consistent with it, administration of a single high dose of CPF to adult Wistar rats elicited...

PREDICTION OF BIOAVAILABILITY OF CHLORPYRIFOS RESIDUES IN SOIL TO EARTHWORMS J. Soil Sci. Plant Nutr.
Wu,X.M; Yu,Y.L; Li,M; Long,Y.H; Fang,H; Li,S.N.
An incubation test was conducted to investigate the effect of aging on bioavailability of chlorpyrifos in soil and to assess the feasibility of chemical extraction techniques for predicting bioavailability of chlorpyrifos in soil. Chlorpyrifos was spiked into sterilized soil and aged in microcosms for up to 120 days. The earthworms were incubated in the spiked soils, at 0, 7, 14, 30, 60, and 120 days after spiking, for a period of 7 days. After exposure, chlorpyrifos concentrations in the earthworm tissues were determined. Change in chemical extractability of soil-chlorpyrifos was measured using a several solvent systems including methanol, methanol-water (9:1), acetone-water (5:3), and water. The results show that chemical extractability and earthworm...

BIOSTIMULATION OF AGRICULTURAL BIOBEDS WITH NPK FERTILIZER ON CHLORPYRIFOS DEGRADATION TO AVOID SOIL AND WATER CONTAMINATION J. Soil Sci. Plant Nutr.
Tortella,G.R; Rubilar,O; Cea,M; Wulff,C; Martínez,O; Diez,M.C.
Degradation of the insecticide chlorpynfos (160 a.i mg kg-1) using a biomix of a biobed system biostimulated with inorganic fertilizer (NPK) was investigated. Three concentrations of the fertilizer (0.1%, 0.5% and 1.0% ww-1) were evaluated on chlorpynfos degradation, TCP (3, 5, 6-trichloro-2-pyrinidol) accumulation and biological activity of the biomix. The chlorpynfos was dissipated efficiently (>75%) after 40 days of incubation and no additional dissipation was obtained with increasing concentration of NPK after 20 days of incubation. TCP accumulation occuned in all evaluated NPK concentrations and its concentration increased with the increment of NPK addition raising the probability of leaching of this compound. Biological activity (FDA and...

Electrochemical quantification of chlorpyrifos in white (Allium cepa L.) and green (Allium fistulosum L.) onions Acta Agron. (Palmira)
García Colmenares,José Mauricio; Páez Cepeda,Leidy Paola; Chaparro Acuña,Sandra Patricia.
Abstract The Linear sweep voltammetry method (LSP) of a common pesticide such as chlorpyrifos (CP) an organophosphate pesticide (OPP) in white (Allium cepa L.) and green onions (Allium fistulosum L.) was investigated. A hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) Ag/AgCl was used as reference electrode and platinum as a counter electrode. The OPP was extracted from the onion through liquid-liquid partition using acetone/dichloromethane as the solvent. Validated method was compared with GC/ECD as a reference method. CP concentration was not different between the two analytical techniques; the analysis was performed with a confidence level of 90%, corresponding to the polarographic method. CP concentration was 0.8400 ± 0.062 ppm in Allium cepa and 0.062 ± 0.300...

In the present study, an organophosphorus compound Coroban (active ingredient chlorpyrifos – E.C. 20%) was used. In short-term exposure the fish were subjected to 0.8 of 96h LC50 value of chlorpyrifos (1.76 mg L-1) for 96h. In long-term exposure the experiment was performed for 28 days by using 0.2 of 96h LC50 value of chlorpyrifos (0.44 mg L-1). Fish were killed on each time intervals from control and experimental (chlorpyrifos) groups after 24, 48, 72, and 96h in short-term exposure and after 7, 14, 21, and 28 days in long-term experiment. Blood samples were collected and sera were analyzed for calcium. Pituitary glands were fixed for histological studies and stained with Herlant tetrachrome and Heidenhain’s azan techniques. Short-term exposure of...

Soil bacteria showing a potential of chlorpyrifos degradation and plant growth enhancement BJM
Akbar,Shamsa; Sultan,Sikander.
ABSTRACT Background: Since 1960s, the organophosphate pesticide chlorpyrifos has been widely used for the purpose of pest control. However, given its persistence and toxicity towards life forms, the elimination of chlorpyrifos from contaminated sites has become an urgent issue. For this process bioremediation is the method of choice. Results: Two bacterial strains, JCp4 and FCp1, exhibiting chlorpyrifos-degradation potential were isolated from pesticide contaminated agricultural fields. These isolates were able to degrade 84.4% and 78.6% of the initial concentration of chlorpyrifos (100 mg L-1) within a period of only 10 days. Based on 16S rRNA sequence analysis, these strains were identified as Achromobacter xylosoxidans (JCp4) and Ochrobactrum sp....
