------------------------------------------------------ Agricultural land cannot remain in Hungarian ownership, unless it can provide to land owners adequate income and... |

The main co-ordinators/channels used in Hungarian fruit and vegetable supply chain are the following: local market, wholesale markets, production co-operatives, marketing cooperatives, producers organisation, processing industry, wholesalers and retailers. Different retail chains gain a progressively larger share of the fresh fruit and vegetable market. It is very important, therefore, that the farmers have to use marketing channels which could give them the strengths (countervailing power) of more concentrated organisations. In this case study, we examine the integration role of Mórakert Purchasing and Service Co-operative, in Mórahalom in county Csongrád which can be found in the southern east part of Hungary. The Morakert co-operative active in the... |

Wine production in Germany has a tradition of more than 200 years in each of the 13 German quality wine-growing regions. Even today mall grape growers dominate the industry. As a result, most of the viticulturists are members of cooperatives. Our observation that grape growers still turn to wine co-ops, and hence, the increase in co-op members and vineyards, might indicate that the wine co-ops are successful. Thus, the aim of our paper is two-fold. First, we analyze the structure of this complex sector and the managerial construct strategic member groups. Second, we empirically test whether the formation of strategic groups is a driver of cooperative success. |

The cooperative movement in Poland has a long but difficult history. The socialistic regime introduced a command and control system into cooperatives which was destructive to their self-governing functions and eventually led to a lack of member involvement. There was a mass neglecting and abandonment after the transformation in particular of rural cooperatives. Nonetheless, in the early 1990s the first farmers’ cooperative marketing organizations, called agricultural producer groups, appeared on the market. They are bottom-up, voluntary organizations whose main purpose is to jointly sell their members’ output Although producer groups functions similarly to marketing cooperatives, farmers establishing producer groups have been choosing other legal forms... |
