Wimveria gen. nov. for Schizotricha divergens Naumov, 1960, from the Commander Islands, with comments on the scope of the family Kirchenpaueriidae (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa) Naturalis
Stepanjants, S.; Svoboda, A.; Pena Cantero, A.; Sheiko, O..
Wimveria gen. nov. is established to accommodate Schizotricha divergens Naumov, 1960. Though this species should clearly be referred to the family Kirchenpaueriidae, no existing genus seems suitable. A redescription of the species and a diagnosis of Wimveria gen. nov. are given.

Número de alelos XO em uma população de Melipona quadrifasciata anthidioides Lepeletier (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Meliponinae) Zoologia
Aidar,Davi S.; Kerr,Warwick E..
The number of xo alleles of a population of stingless bees can be estimated by observing the male proportion of the first brood comb produced by a new queen (about 40 Fl bees) and the total number of colonies. A proportion of 50% diploid males indicates insemination of the queen by a single male with some xo sex allele: 25% diploid male would indicate insemination by two males (one with some xo as the queen and another with different one). Diploidy was confirmed by cytology of the testis. The original population (78 colonies) of Ribeirão Preto, State S. Paulo, Brazil, had 8 xo sex alleles. From this population, 10 colonies were orphaned and taken to the Serra do Mar (Sea Mountains) at Espirito Santo State (1200 km far) in order that the virgin queen of...

Souza, Marcos Magalhaes de; Universidade Federal de Lavras; Pires, Epifânio Porfiro; Universidade Federal de Lavras; Elpino-Campos, Abner; Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul; Louzada, Júlio Neil Cassa; Universidade Federal de Lavras.
The survival of social wasp species depends on the success in founding new nests. These species can use plant species with different specific characteristics for nesting, with nest architecture varying according to the habits of those plant species. The nesting of social wasps in natural environments was studied in the period from October 2005 to September 2007 inthe rio das Mortes riparian forest, municipal district of Barroso, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, with the objective of evaluating the different types of plant substrate used by social wasps for nesting, and to investigate whether there is a relationship between nest construction type and the habits of plant species. A total of 171 colonies of social wasps belonging to 29 species were recorded, which...

Nidification of Polybia rejecta (Hymenoptera: Vespidae) associated to Azteca chartifex (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in a fragment of Atlantic Forest, in the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil Biota Neotropica
Souza,Marcos Magalhães de; Pires,Epifânio Porfiro; Prezoto,Fábio.
Records to nesting between associated social wasp Polybia rejecta(Fabricius, 1798) and the ant Azteca chartifex Forel, 1896 in the Parque Estadual do Rio Doce, Minas Gerais, are reported. This association is reported for the first time in this biome. Twelve colonies of P. rejecta founded close to nests of A. chartifex were observed. The wasp colonies were founded at a distance of about 10-20 cm from the ant nest and they did not overlap. The nests of wasps were smaller compared to ant, but the coloring was similar protective casing, making it difficult to differentiate between the wasp nest and the ant.
