Silva,R. J.; Béda,A. F.; Ferreira,V. L..
Phalotris matogrossensis (Serpentes, Colubridae) was reported as a new host for Haplometroides intercaecalis (Digenea, Plagiorchiidae). The host snake was obtained from the municipality of Anastácio, state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. One specimen of H. intercaecalis was recovered from the esophagus of the host and identified by the intercecal position of the vitellaria in the pre-acetabular region. This paper describes the second report of the occurrence of this trematode in fossorial snakes of the genus Phalotris in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.

Notes on the herpetofauna of Surinam : VII. Revision of the genus Atracus in Surinam, with the resurrection of two species (Colubridae, Reptilia) Naturalis
Hoogmoed, M.S..
A re-examination of old specimens of the genus Atractus, preserved in the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie resulted in the discovery of syntypes of Brachyorrhos badius F. Boie, B. flammigerus F. Boie, B. schach F. Boie and Rabdosoma torquatus Dumeril, Bibron & Dumeril. Lectotypes for all these species are designated. B. flammigerus and B. schach have been considered synonyms of Atractus badius since 1837. This proved to be wrong, they turned out to be valid taxa exhibiting differences in scale counts, body size, hemipenial morphology and colour pattern. Among recently collected material from Surinam the recently described A. zidoki Gasc & Rodrigues was discovered and described on the basis of seven specimens. Both A. latifrons (Günther) and A....

The snakes of the genus Atractus Wagler (Reptilia: Squamata: Colubridae) from the Manaus region, central Amazonia, Brazil Naturalis
Martins, M.; Oliveira, M.E..
Taxonomic and natural history data are presented on eight species of Atractus from the Manaus region, central Amazonia, Brazil, namely: A. alphonsehogei, A. latifrons, A, major, A. poeppigi, A. schach, A. snethlageae, A. torquatus, and A. trilineatus. Four of these species are recorded for the first time for the region, which indicates the scarcity of snake collections in central Amazonia.

Phylogenetic relationships of a new species of Apostolepis from Brazilian Cerrado with notes on the assimilis group (Serpentes: Colubridae: Xenodontinae: Elapomorphini) Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Ferrarezzi,Hebert; Barbo,Fausto Erritto; Albuquerque,Cristina España.
The assimilis species group is one of the several assemblages that can be distinguished within the genus Apostolepis. The group is characterized by a uniform red dorsal pattern, broad nucho-cervical collars, enlarged light snout blotch, dark ventral head, and entirely black terminal shield. A new species is here recognized as a member of the assimilis group and its phylogenetic relationships to A. assimilis and A. cearensis is inferred by means of cladistic analysis. Apostolepis ammodites sp. nov. can be easily diagnosed from all congeners by many autapomorphies and an exclusive combination of features. Comparative data are presented on scalation, coloration, dentition, osteology, and geographic distribution, with some notes on feeding and reproductive...

Molecular phylogeny of advanced snakes (Serpentes, Caenophidia) with an emphasis on South American Xenodontines: a revised classification and descriptions of new taxa Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Zaher,Hussam; Grazziotin,Felipe Gobbi; Cadle,John E.; Murphy,Robert W.; Moura-Leite,Julio Cesar de; Bonatto,Sandro L..
We present a molecular phylogenetic analysis of caenophidian (advanced) snakes using sequences from two mitochondrial genes (12S and 16S rRNA) and one nuclear (c-mos) gene (1681 total base pairs), and with 131 terminal taxa sampled from throughout all major caenophidian lineages but focussing on Neotropical xenodontines. Direct optimization parsimony analysis resulted in a well-resolved phylogenetic tree, which corroborates some clades identified in previous analyses and suggests new hypotheses for the composition and relationships of others. The major salient points of our analysis are: (1) placement of Acrochordus, Xenodermatids, and Pareatids as successive outgroups to all remaining caenophidians (including viperids, elapids, atractaspidids, and all...

Alimentação das espécies de Siphlophis Fitzinger (Serpentes, Colubridae, Xenodontinae, Pseudoboini) Zoologia
Prudente,Ana Lúcia da Costa; Moura-Leite,Júlio César de; Morato,Sérgio Augusto Abrahão.
Survey of 30 stoniach and/or gut contents of the five species of Siphlophis Fitzinger, 1843 revealed predominance of mostly diurnal species of lizards. Remains of nocturnal prey and snakes were also found. For the first time, one frog and one bat are recorded as preys of one species (S. cervimis Laurenti, 1768). Predation on mollusks and birds is not confirmed herein.

Snakes preying on bats: new records from Brazil and a review of recorded cases in the Neotropical Region Zoologia
Esbérard,Carlos E. L.; Vrcibradic,Davor.
Predation on bats by snakes is relatively infrequently reported in the literature, though it may actually not be an uncommon phenomenon, since bat colonies represent a potential concentration of food for many medium-sized or large snakes. Herein we describe four events of bat predation by snakes and present a review of predation records of snakes on bats in the Neotropics compiled from the literature. A total of 20 species of snakes have been recorded so far as predators of bats in the New World tropics, with boiids being represented by the greatest number of cases. Due to the semi-arboreal habits of most of its species, their large size and their usual preference for mammalian prey, the Boiidae are probably the main reptilian predators of bats in the...

Comportamento alimentar e dieta da "falsa-coral" Oxyrhopus guibei Hoge & Romano (Serpentes, Colubridae) Zoologia
Andrade,Rogério de Oliveira; Silvano,Renato A. Matias.
The feeding behavior and constriction pattern of adults and juveniles Oxyrhopus guibei Hoge & Romano, 1978 preying on rodents and lizards are described. An analysis of stomach contents of snakes preserved in collections was made to study its diet. The results indicate that this snake constricts prey with right to left side movements, horizontal position and with the dorsal portion of its body. Rodents were constricted by adult snakes whereas lizard were swallowed alive. The diet is composed of lizards and rodents, with an ontogenetic shift from lizards to rodents.
