Small-scale fisheries have traditionally received less research effort than large-scale fisheries and are generally under-studied in Europe. In spite of their comparatively low volume of catches and economic importance, small-scale fisheries are socially important and an integral part of the European coastal zone. Articles 6(1) and 7(2) of Council Regulation (EC) No 199/2008 state that the evaluation ofboth NP proposals and TRs should be carried out by STECF. Therefore, the guidelines andtemplates should also facilitate SGRN’s evaluation of Member States’ compliance with theDCF. SGRN received a mandate to review these guidelines and templates in its July 2009meeting (SGRN-09-02), and proposed a new structure for both NP proposals and TRs, and atotally revised version of the Standard Tables. The RCMs subsequently provided an in-depthreview of the revised tables. The purpose of the SGRN/ECA-09-03 meeting (Ispra, 19-21October 2009) to review of NP and TR guidelines was to finalise the templates andguidelines, starting from the work done in SGRN in July 2009 and the... |
