Compressive strength of rice husk stabilized termite hill soil CIGR Journal
Adekola, Kehinde Adedeji.
Termite hills are described as the structure built by termite using soil in the surrounding or within the earth. The mound has extremely hard walls constructed from bits of soil cemented with saliva and baked by the sun. This research is to determine the compressive strength of termite hill soil stabilized with rice husk. The study investigated the compressive strength of 150 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm cubes made from termite hill soil and rice husk in the different mix ratio of 50:50, 60:40, 70:30, 80:20, 100:0 and was cured for 28 d with crushing the cubes at 7 d interval. The weight, bulk density and dry density of the cubes at different THS/RH mix ratio ages were determined. Test results showed that the compressive strength of the cubes increases with age...

Electrochemical potential monitoring experiments were performed on mild steel rebars embedded in concrete admixed with aniline inhibitor and fixed amount of sodium chloride salt partially immersed in sulfuric acid and sodium chloride solution.  The open circuit potential corrosion monitoring technique was employed and the potential readings were taken in accordance with ASTM C 876.  Repressive attribute and consistency of the inhibitor was then estimated by the Weibull probability density distribution as an extreme value statistical modeling approach to study performance effectiveness and to predict the most efficient inhibitor concentration in each media.  Aniline effect on the compressive strengths of the reinforced concrete samples was also investigated...

ASSESMENT OF PALM KERNEL SHELL AS A COMPOSITE AGGREGATE IN CONCRETE CIGR Journal
Oti, Okechukwu Peter; Nwaigwe, Kevin Nnanye; Okereke, Ngozi A. A..
This  manuscript  presents  a report on  the  physical properties of palm kernel shell used  here  as a coarse aggregate  and  their  effect  on the strength properties of palm kernel shell concrete.Laboratory research was carried out to observe the effects of replacing crushed granite with palm kernel shell on the compressive strength and density of palm kernel shell concrete. Mix design of 1:2:4 and a water-cement ratio of 0.6 were used to produce concrete specimen cubes of size 150mm3.A total of 60 cubes were made and wholly submerged in water to cure for 28days at intervals of 7days i.e. 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after which their densities and compressive strengths were determined. Granite was replaced with palm kernel shell in the mix at 25% interval...

Preparation and evaluation of a biomimetic scaffold with porosity gradients in vitro Anais da ABC (AABC)
Wang,Qianbin; Wang,Qiguang; Wan,Changxiu.
A novel biodegradable scaffold based on mimetic a natural bone tissue morphology with a porosity gradient structure was prepared in this paper. The result of surface morphology indicated that a graded porous structure was formed in the fabricated scaffold, where the dense layer (0%) was connected with the most porous layer (60%) by a middling porous layer (30%). To evaluate the degradability, graded porous scaffolds compared with homogeneous scaffolds were placed into a Tris-HCl buffer solution (pH = 7.4) for 28 days. It was found that both scaffolds presented the same degradation trend, and the graded porous structure did not change the original degradability of the scaffold. Moreover, the compressive strength of the graded porous scaffold was better than...

MANUFACTURE OF SOIL-CEMENT BRICKS WITH THE ADDITION OF SUGARCANE BAGASSE ASH REA
Jordan,Rodrigo A.; Costa,Matheus V. Da; Martins,Elton A. S.; Rosa,Maxer A.; Petrauski,Alfredo.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of sugarcane bagasse ash on the compressive strength and water absorption index of soil-cement bricks. The ash was sieved without chemical and/or physical treatment to reflect the use of this material in real manufacturing processes. The addition of natural ash decreased the quality of the bricks, reducing the compressive strength and increasing the water absorption index.

Determining the concrete stiffness matrix through ultrasonic testing REA
Gonçalves,Raquel; Giacon Júnior,Milton; Lopes,Igor M..
The determination of the modulus tangent (Eci ) and of the modulus secant (Ecs) of the concrete can be done using compression test but, to be simpler, it is used relations with characteristic strength (f ck). Relations are also used to determine the transversal modulus (Gc) and, in the case of the Poisson's ratio (ν), a fixed value 0.20 is established. The objective of this research was to evaluate the use of the ultrasonic propagation waves to determine these properties. For the tests were used specimens with f ck varying from 10 to 35 MPa. For the ultrasonic tests were used cylindrical and cubic specimens. The modulus of deformation obtained by ultrasound was statistically equivalent to the obtained by compression tests. The results of modules obtained...
