Gadila elongata comb. nov. was described in 1920 from the northern Gulf of Mexico. Until recently, it was only known from the type locality. Herein we present the first record of G. elongata from Brazil (Northeast coast, Ceará state, collected at 177 m) and a morphometrics analysis of the Brazilian species of Gadila. We conducted a study on shell morphology variation among three populations of Happiella cf. insularis (Boëttger, 1889) inhabiting different areas (Jararaca, Caxadaço, and Parnaioca trails) at Vila Dois Rios, Ilha Grande, Angra dos Reis, state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Linear and angular measurements, shell indices representing shell shape, and whorl counts were obtained from images drawn using a stereomicroscope coupled with a camera lucida. The statistical analysis based on ANOVA (followed by Bonferroni's test), Pearson's correlation matrix, and discriminant analysis enabled discrimination among the populations studied. Six morphometric shell direct measurements of the Gadilidae species Gadila acus (Dall, 1889), Cadulus braziliensis Henderson, 1920, Cadulus parvus Henderson, 1920 and Polyschides tetraschistus (Watson, 1879) were carried out and used to build three morphometric indices in according to the proposition of SHIMEK (1989): LI, relating total shell length to length from the dorsal aperture to the maximum width; WI, relating maximum shell diameter to apertural diameter; and Ws, whorl expansion rate (sensu RAUP 1966).
