Effects of artificial light sources on growth and phytochemicals content in green oak lettuce Horticultura Brasileira
Etae,Nursalmeeyah; Wamae,Yarodah; Khummueng,Weeraya; Utaipan,Tanyarath; Ruangrak,Eaknarin.
ABSTRACT The artificial light source is one of the most important factors in a controlled environment for vegetable production. It could provide new opportunities to improve growth and increase phytochemicals content in vegetables. Therefore, this study focused on the effects of artificial light sources on growth and phytochemicals in green oak lettuce (Lactuca sativa). The plants were grown under growth chamber with three artificial light sources, namely bar-LED (the 1:1:1 ratio of blue 460 nm : red 630 nm : red 660 nm), bulb-LED (the 2:1:1 ratio of blue 460 nm : red 630 nm : red 660 nm), and fluorescent lamp (FL) (the wavelength range 380-700 nm) for 4 weeks. The quality of bar-LED light was better than either bulb-LED or FL, when assessed by the...

Spikelet sterility in rice genotypes affected by temperature at microsporogenesis AGRIAMBI
Souza,Natalia M. de; Marschalek,Rubens; Sangoi,Luis; Weber,Francieli S..
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the effect of temperatures during the phase of microsporogenesis on spikelet sterility of paddy rice and identified genotypes tolerant to low temperatures at this growth stage. The inbreds SC681, SC491, and SC676 and the cultivars Epagri 109 and SCS116 Satoru were assessed. The genotypes were submitted for three days in a growth chamber to five temperatures at microsporogenesis: 9, 12, 15, 18, and 21 oC. For each tested temperature, a control was kept in the greenhouse under environmental conditions. After harvest, full and empty spikelets were counted and weighed and the percentage of spikelet sterility was determined. Data were evaluated by variance analysis using the F test. Averages were compared by Tukey’s test and...

Relationships of photosynthetic photon flux density, air temperature and humidity with tomato leaf diffusive conductance and temperature BABT
Righi,Evandro Zanini; Buriol,Galileo Adeli; Angelocci,Luiz Roberto; Heldwein,Arno Bernardo; Tazzo,Ivonete Fátima.
The objective was to study the leaf temperature (LT) and leaf diffusive vapor conductance (gs) responses to temperature, humidity and incident flux density of photosynthetically active photons (PPFD) of tomato plants grown without water restriction in a plastic greenhouse in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil. The plants were grown in substrate and irrigated daily. The gs was measured using a steady-state null-balance porometer on the abaxial face of the leaves during the daytime. Both leaf surfaces were measured in one day. The PPFD and LT were measured using the porometer. Leaf temperature was determined using an infrared thermometer, and air temperature and humidity were measured using a thermohygrograph. The leaves on the upper layer of the plants had higher gs...
