The organic (ecologic-biologic) agricultural practices in Turkey began in 1985 with organic raisins and dried figs demand of European countries. As of 2015, 1829291 tons of organic products from 197 different products, which comprise grapes, in 515268 ha, are produced by 69967 farmers. Currently, the number of registered enterprises operating in organic agriculture is over 1500. As in the entire in world and in Turkey, the share of organic production in grape production is increasing. Organic grape production is carried out in 10645 ha area in Turkey. This amount constitutes approximately 2.3% of the total grape production area in Turkey. Organic grape is the second major product of Turkey export, and the export share of organic products in recent years is... |

Edith Ileen Macpherson (1898-1984) was a co-founder of Australia’s original biodynamic Demeter Farm (c.1934-1954) along with her partner Ernesto Genoni (1885-1974). Ileen was a member of Rudolf Steiner’s Experimental Circle of Anthroposophic Farmers and Gardeners (from 1936). Ernesto was the first Australian member (from 1928). At their Demeter Farm in Dandenong, Victoria, they practiced biodynamic agriculture on over 40 acres (16 ha) through the years of the Great Depression, through World War II, and for the first decade of the post-war years, producing milk, fruit, and vegetables. Ileen was an early Australian Anthroposophist and follower of Rudolf Steiner. It was a blow to their Demeter Farm enterprise when she fell ill. Eventually she was no longer... |

In the last decade, an ever increasing interest of both foreign and domestic academic and general public for organic agriculture can be observed. Organic agriculture, as a new agricultural production system, enables full utilization of farming potentials while satisfying social and economic needs and preserving natural ecosystem and environment. Act on Organic Production of Agricultural Products and Foodstuffs provides an elementary strategic frame for agricultural production development in Republic of Croatia. This article gives an overview of organic agriculture legislation in Croatia and detailed analysis of development periods of organic agriculture. Special emphasis is put on structure of organic production which highlights data on organic plant and... |

This paper compiles statistics for certified organic farmland and organic consumption in the eight Nordic-Baltic countries, and describes main drivers and obstacles, focusing on policy and strategies including organic research. Significant differences are found between the countries, also between countries with relatively comparable climatic and economic conditions. Explanations are discussed. Successful examples, especially Denmark and Sweden, show that organic agriculture is an option for refreshing agriculture in general, when there is a significant political will to support this farming practice. |

The aim of the study was to compare the development of organic food production in eight European countries: Austria, Denmark, Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Norway and Sweden. The comparison was done between years 1998 and 2014. Many countries have set similar targets for organic agriculture: the most general for the production is 20 % of the field area before year 2020. Austria as the first European country has already reached it, but it had an earlier start for the organic development. Best practices to increase production are better targeted subsidies, national development programs with precise goals and proper actions to reach them and co-operation between farmers and research. Best countries in consumption of organics are Denmark, Sweden and... |

In the last ten years, both the academic community and the general public became more interested in organic agriculture. Organic agriculture is a holistic production system, which sustains the natural soil activity, ecosystems and people. It supports ecological processes, biodiversity and normal life-cycle in the nature, respects the specifics of a locality and excludes inputs of a non-organic origin. Available statistical data show that there are 1,8 million producers from 160 countries that engage in organic agriculture. The numbers of organic farms and share of organic in total agricultural surfaces are constantly increasing. Development of organic agriculture, namely, increase of organic agriculture outputs, enables creation of the market for organic... |

At the end of 2015, there were 3 635 organic farms in Latvia, which was 158 more than in the previous year, and the number of certified organic farms was steady over the last six years. The organically certified area was 237 462 ha, or approximately 12% of the total UAA in the country, which was 14.38% more than in 2014. After the Paris Summit on Climate Change held at the end of 2015, Latvia joined the initiative “4‰” proposed by France, the purpose of which was to increase the organic matter content of soil and contribute to the absorption of carbon by the soil through agricultural activities being appropriate under the local conditions from the economic, environmental and social aspects. Thus the application of organic farming methods in agricultural... |

Berry-based products that have beneficial effects on consumer health are competitive on the market only if consumers understand the benefits of such products. The purpose of this research was to gain in-depth analysis of the factors that influence the consumer choices and behavior towards berry based food products in three different countries, from eastern and western Europe: Romania, France and Turkey. These three countries as a three distinctive markets for organic products were chosen to find out similar and different attitudes and behavior towards organic food consumption. This cross-cultural consumer study aims to contribute to socioeconomic research market actors and policy makers. French consumers appear to be the most loyal consumers of... |
