Artificial infestation of Boophilus microplus in beef cattle heifers of four genetic groups Genet. Mol. Biol.

Resistance of beef cattle heifers to the cattle tick Boophilus microplus was evaluated by artificial infestation of 66 beef cattle heifers of the following genetic groups: 16 Nelore (NE), 18 Canchim x Nelore (CN), 16 Angus x Nelore (AN) and 16 Simmental x Nelore (SN). The animals, with a mean age of 16.5 months, were maintained with no chemical tick control in a Brachiaria decumbens pasture. Four artificial infestations with 20,000 B. microplus larvae were carried out 14 days apart and from day 18 to day 22 of each infestation the number of engorged female ticks (> 4.5 mm) was counted on the left side of each heifer. Relationship between genetic abilities of Japanese Black sires predicted from Japanese Black and crossbred population OAK

黒毛和種×ホルスタイン種による交雑種(F1)は,わが国の牛肉需要を満たす上で重要な品種である.しかしF1に対する種雄牛の遺伝評価に関する調査はほとんどなく,高品質の枝肉生産を目的とした場合,黒毛和種種雄牛の育種価を参考にするしかない.本研究では,黒毛和種種雄牛と母の品種間の交互作用を調査し,F1に対する種雄牛評価の必要性について検討した.分析には黒毛和種(4,415頭)およびF1 (3,211頭)の枝肉格付記録を使用した.各品種から得られた値の遺伝相関係数によって交互作用を評価した.分散成分の推定にはAIREMLF90プログラムを用いた.BMSの遺伝相関係数は0.91と推定された.また黒毛和種のデータから推定された期待後代差(EPD)と,F1データから推定されたEPDとの順位相関係数を求めたところ,高い値となり(0.96-0.99),大きな交互作用がないことが示された.よって黒毛和種種雄牛のEPDはF1後代の肉質を予測するための指標となり得ることが示された.

Study of consumer sensory evaluation between once-calved and non-calved crossbred heifers OAK

交雑種一産取り肥育牛および交雑種未経産牛を用い,真空低温調理法によるローストビーフの消費者型官能評価を行い比較検討することを目的とした.交雑種一産肥育牛は妊娠期間を経て,約10ヵ月の肥育期間で,平均35ヵ月齢で屠畜した.交雑種未経産牛は受胎しなかったウシで,肥育期間9ヵ月以上,32ヵ月齢で屠畜した.官能評価は2点嗜好法で行い,肉質が同程度となるよう選抜した交雑種一産肥育牛および交雑種未経産牛を1セットとし,5セット実施した.枝肉格付形質および画像解析形質は,すべての形質で一産肥育牛および未経産牛間の有意差は認められなかった(P>0.05).評価項目は香り,軟らかさ,ジューシーさおよび好ましさで,項目ごとに4段階で評価した.交雑種未経産牛に比べて交雑種一産肥育牛で香り,軟らかさ,ジューシーさおよび好ましさの全形質において有意に高い値を示し(P<0.01),交雑種一産取り肥育牛が消費者からの高い評価を得た.

Protein requirements for females of Nellore, Nellore × Angus and Nellore × Simmental fed on two forage: concentrate ratios R. Bras. Zootec.

This study aimed to determine the protein requirements for females of Nellore, F1 Nellore × Angus and F1 Nellore × Simmental fed on two concentrate levels (30 and 50%). Sixty heifers from three genetic groups with 18 months of age were used: 20 Nellore, 20 Nellore × Angus and 20 Nellore × Simmental. Twelve heifers of the reference group (four of each genetic group) were slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment. Another 12 heifers (four of each genetic group) were fed on the level of maintenance and 36 heifers (12 animals of each genetic group) were kept in power system ad libitum with 30% (six of each group) or 50% (six of each group) dietary dry matter in concentrate. The aim of this study was to evaluate, by meta-analysis, the quality of the meat of the cows according to genotype, termination system and age class slaughter. During an online research were identified 15 articles with information related to meat quality of slaughtered cows. The data were grouped according of the genotype of cows being: zebu or continental defined, crossed zebu x british or zebu x continental; according to termination system: feedlot or grassland; according to age of slaughter, where: up to 4 years old (young), 4-8 years old (adult) or more than 8 years old (old).
