Comparison of shape analysis methods for Guinardia citricarpa ascospore characterization Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Pazoti,Mário Augusto; Garcia,Rogério Eduardo; Cruz Pessoa,José Dalton; Martinez Bruno,Odemir.
Among the diseases affecting the commercial citrus production, the citrus black spot (CBS) is considered to cause substantial losses. The analyses of particles in suspension in the orchards and collected into a disc have been applied as a preventive action trying to identify the presence of fungus spores before symptom appearance. In this paper, we show the results of several shape analysis methods applied to the fungus, the first step to the aimed computer aided vision system, capable to assist the identification process. Experiments and comparative results among the methods are presented in this paper, showing that better results were obtained applying the curvature method

The GO4 Model in Near-Nadir Microwave Scattering From the Sea Surface ArchiMer
Boisot, Olivier; Nouguier, Frederic; Chapron, Bertrand; Guerin, Charles-antoine.
We introduce a practical and accurate model, referred to as "GO4," to describe near-nadir microwave scattering from the sea surface, and at the same time, we address the issue of the filtered mean square slope (mss) conventionally used in the geometrical optics model. GO4 is a simple correction of this last model, taking into account the diffraction correction induced by the rough surface through what we call an effective mean square curvature (msc). We evaluate the effective msc as a function of the surface wavenumber spectrum and the radar frequency and show that GO4 reaches the same accuracy as the physical optics model in a wide range of incidence and frequency bands with the sole knowledge of the mss and msc parameters. The key point is that the mss...

Spatial variability of soil attributes and sugarcane yield in relation to topographic location AGRIAMBI
Souza,Zigomar M. de; Cerri,Domingos G. P.; Magalhães,Paulo S. G.; Siqueira,Diego S..
Soils submitted to the same management system in places with little variation of landscape, manifest differentiated spatial variability of their attributes and crop yield. The aim of this work was to investigate the correlation between spatial variability of the soil attributes and sugarcane yield as a result of soil topography. To achieve this objective, a test area of 42 ha located at the São João Sugar Mill, in Araras, in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, was selected. Sugarcane yield was measured with a yield monitor fitted in a sugarcane harvester and GPS signal. A total of 170 soil samples were taken at regular 50 m grid, at a depth of 0 - 0.2 m. The area under study was divided into two sites based on topography. The following soil attributes were...

Aedeagus morphology as a discriminant marker in two closely related Cactophilic species of Drosophila (Diptera; Drosophilidae) in South America Anais da ABC (AABC)
Franco,Fernando F.; Prado,Pedro R.R.; Sene,Fábio M.; Costa,Luciano F.; Manfrin,Maura H..
Drosophila serido and D. antonietae are sibling species belonging to the Drosophila buzzatii cluster. Morphologically, they can only be discriminated by quantitative traits. In this paper we analyze the length and equalized average curvature of four regions of the aedeagus of D. antonietae and D. serido. Specimens of D. serido and D. antonietae were classified correctly 96.74% of the time. Based only on the variable that most contributed to the discrimination of the groups (equalized average curvature of the arch IV of the aedeagus), we observed significant intraspecific morphological divergence in D. serido in relation to the D. antonietae, in agreement with other markers. The high morphological divergence in equalized average curvature of the arch IV of...

Surfaces in E³ invariant under a one parameter group of isometries of E³ Anais da ABC (AABC)
ROUSSOS,IOANNIS M..
We develop a convenient surface theory in E³ in order to apply it to the class of the surfaces invariant under a one-parameter group of isometries of E³. In this way we derive intrinsic characterizations along with several results of subclasses of this class of surfaces that satisfy certain preassigned properties. In the process all results are also effortlessly derived. Among these subclasses are those with surfaces; of constant mean curvature, of constant Gaussian curvature, isothermic, with constant difference or ratio of the principal curvatures.
