Continued degradation of the Baltic Sea ecosystem has affected water quality, modified biodiversity, and impact regional fisheries. The Baltic Sea is now an ecosystem under extreme stress. In response to this situation, the countries in the drainage basin initiated a Joint Comprehensive Environmental Action Program for the Baltic Sea (JCP). The JPC, as adopted in 1992, strengthened and updated in 1998, constitutes a "Strategic Action Plan" for the Baltic Sea region. To address the need for an ecosystem-based approach to resource management, the Baltic Sea Regional Project (BSRP) is designed within the principles of the Large Marine Ecosystem concept, focusing on land-based, coastal zone, and marine activities including activities for improving ecosystem... |

This document contains summary statistics of the NEI4 purse seiner fleet fishing in the Indian Ocean, as well as some information about how the data are collected. The sampling scheme, the sampling coverage, maps and diagrams representing the fishing pattern of this fleet by time and area strata. Data collection and the sampling programme for this fleet are the same as those used for the Spanish and French purse seine fleets. 'Research Group' Instituto Espanol de Oceanografia. The Global Ocean Surface Underway Data (GOSUD) Project is an Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) programme designed as an end to end system for data collected by ships as they traverse their ocean tracks. The goal of the GOSUD Project is to develop and implement the data system for ocean surface data, to acquire and manage these data and to provide a mechanism to integrate these data with other types of data collected in the world oceans. For the purposes of this Project, the data concerned are those collected as a platform is underway from the ocean surface down to about 15m depth. Development of the GOSUD Project began in 2000 with expressions of interest at the IODE meeting in Lisbon, Portugal. A preliminary meeting was held in Brest,... |

IFOP, as non profit marine research institute has the mission to provide to the Under Secretariat of Fisheries in Chile, the technical information and scientific basis for the regulation of Chilean Fisheries. For this purpose it has 150 Scientific Observers distributed throughout the Chilean coast. With the intention to improve the process of data production, a group of scientists has developed a new computer science system for data collection, data management, and automatic publication of fishing and biological indicators in Web Page. The system allow to collect data of: fishing trips; captures and species composition; length distribution and biological variables. For this is being carried out the following process. Collection of data in Pocket PC with... |

The tuna purse seine fishery based in Seychelles is analysed using data collected by observers on board French, Spanish, Japanese and Soviet vessels. From 1986 to 1989, diffferent types of data were recorded such as meteorolical and oceanographic parameters, aspects and sizes of schools sighted, seiner activities, fishing characteristics (catch, yield, duration of fishing sets). Reliability of observers data with respect to catches is assessed by comparison with log data from French purse seiners. |
