This study investigated the importance of variations in environmental factors affecting the abundance patterns of decapods on the southeastern Brazilian coast. Sampling was carried out monthly from January 1998 through December 1999 in Ubatumirim and Mar Virado, Ubatuba region, using a commercial shrimp fishing boat equipped with double-rig nets. Six areas adjacent to rocky shores were chosen. Bottom-water samples were collected using a Nansen bottle, to measure the temperature and salinity. Sediment samples were also obtained by means of a Van Veen grab, for determination of texture and organic-matter content. The association of environmental factors with species abundance was evaluated by Canonical Correspondence Analysis (α = 0.05). Forty-one species of... |

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) were analysed in the muscle of various edible marine crustaceans (spider crab, edible crab, velvet swimming crab and Norway lobster) from the Brittany and Normandy coasts (France). The highest concentrations were measured in species collected from Antifer (Seine Bay). PCB and PBDE patterns in crustacean muscles were similar and independent of the geographical area with the predominance of the high chlorinated PCBs (CB 15 3, 138, 118 and 180), and of a few PBDE congeners (BDE47, BDE99, WE 100 and BDE28). Oppositely, dioxin contamination differed with site. The major component in crustaceans from the Seine Bay was... |

Marine decapod crustaceans are macrobenthic opportunist species, of great commercial interest, and can accumulate pollutants. Worrying about consumers' safety, polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs), polybromodiphenyl Ethers (PBDEs) and dioxins (PCDD/Fs) were analyzed in four crustacean species from the coastal waters of Brittany and Normandy. As regards to regulations, the consumption of crustacean muscle doesn't raise any health problems. The second objective of this study was to evaluate the biological processes influencing PCB bioaccumulation in the spider crab Maja brachydactyla. From a quantitative point of view, organotropism, diet and age were the major factors acting on contamination. From a qualitative point of view, PCB fingerprints depended on sex, and to... |

An overview of Pál Müller’s 40-year palaeontological career is presented, inclusive of all decapod crustacean genera and species he erected, as well as those named after him, plus a complete listing of all papers devoted to axiideans, gebiideans, anomurans and brachyurans (co-)authored by Pál between 1974 and 2012. |
