Ecosystème estuarien et système économique régional : faisabilité d’une intégration par modélisation Input-Output. Application au cas de l'habitat halieutique dans l’estuaire de la Seine ArchiMer
Cordier, Mateo.
Mateo Cordier’s PhD addresses the interactions between the economic system and the ecosystem of the Seine estuary, an ecosystem deeply modified by human activities. His work aims at a holistic perspective and targets, among others, the destruction of nursery habitats and the subsequent impact on fish stocks in the Seine estuary. The hybrid input-output model developed in the PhD manuscript brings a quantitative insight on stakeholders and natural resources impacted by the modifications of ecosystem services (modifications caused by economic activities, political measures or restoration programs).

The role of technical protocols and partnership engagement in developing a decision support framework for fisheries management ArchiMer
Macher, Claire; Bertignac, Michel; Guyader, Olivier; Frangoudes, Katia; Fresard, Marjolaine; Le Grand, Christelle; Merzereaud, Mathieu; Thebaud, Olivier.
In the context of the Common Fisheries Policy Reform, the implementation of multiannual management plans for fisheries and the annual quota negotiations between EU member states has generated a growing demand from stakeholders and managers for integrated advice that goes beyond the usual biological advice. This has led to the emergence of bio-economic tools and methods for the comparison of the biological, economic and social tradeoffs associated with alternative options for fisheries management. A Decision Support Framework (DSF) has been developed in this context, with the objective to tackle technical and methodological challenges to be able to provide bio-economic advices to support decision at national and European level. It is based on a partnership...

Quantification of interdependencies between economic systems and ecosystem services: An input-output model applied to the Seine estuary ArchiMer
Cordier, Mateo; Perez Agundez, José A.; O'Connor, Martin; Rochette, Sebastien; Hecq, Walter.
The aim of this paper is to assess the possible contribution of an input-output model towards two of the basic principles of the sustainability strategy of integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) and Post-Normal Science. According to these principles, decision-support tools should offer a holistic perspective and handle high uncertainty. The difficulties in reaching sustainability are due partly to the prevailing use of "narrow-system-boundary" tools that are non-holistic. Consequently, they fail to capture important ecosystem services and ignore interdependencies between them. To comply with the basic principles, our method allows environmental assets to be evaluated in multiple units and integrates results from recent researches in natural sciences....

Towards more inclusive long-term bulk water resource management AgEcon
de Lange, Willem J.; Kleynhans, Theo E..
Fresh water resources provide a platform for complex and often emotional issues to develop, particularly in resource scarcity situations. Bulk water infrastructure contains elements of a public good and proved vulnerable to failures in market and government driven allocation strategies. Common to both are uncaptured costs and benefits due to shortcomings in cost quantification techniques. Natural ecosystems stands to lose the most since ecosystem services are often not quantifiable in monetary terms and therefore neglected in allocation decision-making. This paper took on the challenge of expanding current decision-support in order to promote more inclusive long-term water management. A case-study approach with the focus on a choice related problem...

Geo-environmental zoning using physiographic compartmentalization: a proposal for supporting sustainable decision-making Anais da ABC (AABC)
CORRÊA,CLAUDIA V.S.; REIS,FÁBIO A.G.V.; GIORDANO,LUCILIA C.; BRESSANE,ADRIANO; CHAVES,CAMILA J.; AMARAL,ANA MARIA C. DO; BRITO,HERMES D.; MEDEIROS,GERSON A. DE.
ABSTRACT The geo-environmental zoning represents an important strategy in the territorial management. However, it requires a logical and structured procedure. Therefore, an approach using physiographic compartmentalization is proposed and applied as case study in a region covered by the topographic maps of São José dos Campos and Jacareí, Brazil. This region has great geological and geomorphological peculiarities, beyond being a place with large human interventions because of its quickly economic growth. The methodology is based on photointerpretation techniques and remote sensing in GIS environment. As a result, seven geo-environmental zones were obtained from a weighted integration by multicriteria analysis of physiographic units with land-use classes....
