Dental Pulp Fibroblast and Sex Determination in Controlled Burial Conditions International Journal of Morphology
Sandoval,Catherine; Nuñez,Marcelo; Roa,Ignacio.
The need to identify bodies that are found as a result of disappearances with a diversity of causes, illegal burials and massive disasters, represent a wide percentage of dentistry practice on forensic research. The following study determined the performance of Barr Body Test, in fibroblasts of healthy teeth, under different conditions of burial (in vitro) with variations in pH, humidity and salinity in terms of general accuracy and sensitivity for men and women. Analyzed sample considered 47 dental pulps, taken from teeth under burial conditions during a period of a month. From dental pulps samples, 265 histological cuts valid for this study, were obtained, which were observed with an optical microscope under conventional H/E staining. Results showed a...

Calcific Metamorphosis with Pathological Root Resorption in Permanent Teeth: Morphohistometric Evaluation of Two Cases International Journal of Morphology
Fonseca,Gabriel M; Fonseca,Miguel M.
Calcific Metamorphosis (CM) is a pulpal response to dental trauma characterized by a deposition of hard tissue within the canal space. A tooth with CM usually presents a discoloration and a partial or total obliteration of the pulp canal space, and its vital pulp tests and symptoms are difficult. Since pulp necrosis cannot be supposed even the negative responses, the periradicular status is the only reliable criterion. Two permanent teeth diagnosed as CM and pathological root resorption, extracted from two males (22 and 53 years of age) due to severe mobility were prepared and sectioned for histological and histometrical evaluation. Images were captured, processed and measured in a total mapping of each specimen with software Pinnacle Studio 9.4® (Pinnacle...

Effects of Sildenafil on Dental Pulp: Immunohistochemical and Ultrastructural Evaluation International Journal of Morphology
Söker,Sevda; Deveci,Engin; Yaman,Ferhan; Atilgan,Serhat; Ipek,Fikret; Uysal,Ibrahim.
Sildenafil is a strong peripheral vasodilator and is used to treat cardiovascular and neurosurgery. The purpose of this study was to investigate the immunohistochemical and ultrastructural effects of sildenafil on dental pulp of rats. The study was performed with adult female Wistar-Albino rats. Control group (n= 7) were fed on standard laboratory diet until surgery. The study group (n= 7) were administered sildenafil orally with orogastric tube 10 mg·kg-1 once a day for 30 days. Each rat was anesthetized and incisor teeth were removed. This study examined the immunohistochemical and ultrastructural effects of sildenafil on the dental pulp in rats. The relaxation from the vessel, endothelial cell hyperplasia, moderate degeneration of collagen fibers were...

Rat dental pulp stem cells: isolation and phenotypic characterization method aiming bone tissue bioengineering BABT
Bertassoli,Bruno Machado; Costa,Emanuela Silva; Sousa,Cristiane Aparecida; Albergaria,Juliano Douglas Silva; Maltos,Kátia L. Melo; Goes,Alfredo Miranda; Matins,Thais Maria da Mata; Silva,Gerluza Aparecida Borges; Jorge,Erika Cristina.
ABSTRACT: Dental pulp stem cells (DPSC) have been showing a considerable potential for regenerative medicine. Pulps were collected from lower incisors (n=2) through direct access of the tooth pulp chamber. The isolated cells were cultured in alfa-MEM 10% FBS, in standard culture conditions. At the third passage, DPSC were characterized by flow cytometry (MHCI, CD54, CD73, CD90, CD45, CD11 and CD34); RT-PCR for Nanog gene; and their differentiation capacity in osteogenic, adipogenic and chondrogenic cell lines. Isolated cells exhibited adhesion capacity to plastic; fusiform morphology, and 80% confluence reached in approximately 3 days. These cells have also revealed positive expression for CD54, CD73 and CD90 markers; and negative expression for CD11, CD34...

Dental pulp vascular permeability changes induced by dental bleaching BABT
Costa,Cristiane da; Miyagi,Sueli Patricia Harumi; Santos,Marcelo dos; Machado,Manoel Eduardo de Lima; Marques,Márcia Martins.
Aiming to compare the effect of different light sources for dental bleaching on vascular permeability of dental pulps, forty-eight incisors were used. The bleaching agent (35 % hydrogen peroxide) was activated by halogen light; LED (Light Emitting Diode) or LED, followed by laser phototherapy (LPT) (λ = 780 nm; 3 J/cm²). After the bleaching procedures, the animals received an intra-arterial dye injection and one hour later were sacrificed. The teeth were diaphanized and photographed. The amount of blue stain content of each dental pulp was quantified using a computer imaging program. The data was statistically compared (p < 0.05). The results showed a significant higher (p < 0.01) dye content in the groups bleached with halogen light, compared with...

The reaction of dental pulp to Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide and Enterococcus faecalis lipoteichoic acid BJM
Oliveira,Laudimar Alves de; Barbosa,Sérgio Valmor.
This research evaluates the effects of the lipopolysaccharides (LPS) from Escherichia coli and lipoteichoic acid (LTA) from Enterococcus faecalis on dental pulp. These molecules are components of the Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria cell wall, respectively. Ten dogs were used in the experiment. Inoculation in surgically opened pulp and coronal restoration with glass ionomer was the method chosen. The evaluation times were 1, 7, 15, 30 and 60 days. The results showed that the LPS and LTA, at 150 µg/ml, produced a negative interference in the pulp leading to destruction. LTA caused less damage than LPS.
