Organography of greenhouse and field accessions of wild Arachisspecies (section Arachis) Bragantia
Veiga,Renato Ferraz de Arruda; Faria,Leonardo de Grazia; Valls,José Francisco Montenegro; Fávero,Alessandra Pereira.
ABSTRACT Peanut or groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is a globally important oilseed crop, with important nutritional qualities, and a rich source of amino acids and protein. Another 80 species have been described in the genus Arachis, 64 of which are found in Brazil, and even though their morphology and agronomic traits remain largely unknown, they have been cultivated for forage and for landscaping and have great potential for breeding with cultivated peanut. Thus, the morphological characterization of wild Arachis species is essential for their conservation and use. In this study, we present a morphological and agronomic characterization of 29 diploid accessions of eleven wild Arachis species and one of the tetraploid A. monticola (section Arachis) with A...

Identification of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) duplicates using agromorphological and molecular data Genet. Mol. Biol.
Chiorato,Alisson Fernando; Carbonell,Sérgio Augusto Morais; Dias,Luiz Antonio dos Santos; Moura,Rafaeli Ramos; Chiavegato,Marilia Barbosa; Colombo,Carlos Augusto.
We used agromorphological and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) molecular marker data to identify duplicate common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L. Fabaceae) accessions in the Common Bean Germplasm Bank of the Agronomical Institute - IAC (Banco de Germoplasma de feijoeiro do Instituto Agronômico de Campinas (IAC), SP, Brazil). A total of 116 accessions with the same names and similar agromorphological traits was analyzed. The divergence between the accessions was initially evaluated by means of the agromorphological descriptors using single linkage clustering, from the Euclidean distance. Multivariate analysis identified four duplicate accessions (Carioca Lustroso, Bico de Ouro, Jamapa and Preto), with 17 other same-name accessions being suspected...

Morphometric patterns and preferential uses of Capsicum peppers in the State of Roraima, Brazilian Amazonia Horticultura Brasileira
Barbosa,Reinaldo I; Mourão Júnior,Moisés; Luz,Francisco Joaci de F.
Our objective was to study distinctions in the morphology of the pepper fruits (Capsicum spp., Solanaceae) used by indigenous (living in traditional villages) and non-indigenous groups (originated from migration and colonization, with or without miscegenation, living on non-indigenous lands) in the State of Roraima, Northern Brazilian Amazonia. In this sense, we used a database with 182 subsamples of Capsicum spp. Accessions were collected at 39 sites (14 indigenous and 25 non-indigenous), which were characterized additionally in relation to the predominant phytophysiognomy (savanna or forest) and home zone (rural or urban). We found morphological differences in pepper fruits related to both phytophysiognomy and home zone of the collecting site, but not to...

Morpho-agronomic characterization of sweet potato germplasm Horticultura Brasileira
Alves,Rodrigo P; Blank,Arie F; Oliveira,Alisson Marcel S; Santana,Aléa Dayane D; Pinto,Vanderson S; Andrade,Thiago M.
ABSTRACT Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) spreads mainly by vegetative propagation, and therefore this vegetable may have duplicate accessions in germplasm banks. The authors aimed to characterize morpho-agronomically the sweet potato germplasm from the Active Germplasm Bank (AGB) of Universidade Federal de Sergipe (UFS).The experiment was carried out at the Research Farm “Campus Rural da UFS”. The experimental design was a randomized block design, testing 73 sweet potato accessions with two replicates and four plants per plot. Morpho-agronomic traits of aboveground part and roots were evaluated. We observed that the leaf lobe type, the number of lobes per leaf, shape of central lobe, and general leaf shape were traits which provided the most variability...

Size of plots for experiments with cactus pear cv. Gigante AGRIAMBI
Guimarães,Bruno V. C.; Donato,Sérgio L. R.; Aspiazú,Ignacio; Azevedo,Alcinei M.; Carvalho,Abner J. de.
ABSTRACT The definition of experimental plot size is an essential tool to ensure precision in statistical analysis in experiments. The objective of this study was to estimate the plot size for the cactus pear cv. Gigante using the Modified Maximum Curvature Method, under the semi-arid conditions of Northeastern Brazil. The uniformity test was conducted at the Federal Institute of Bahia, Guanambi Campus, Bahia state, Brazil, during the agricultural period from 2009 to 2011. The spatial arrangement was composed of ten rows with 50 plants each, whose evaluated area was formed by the eight central rows with 48 plants per row, making 384 plants and area of 153.60 m2. The following variables were evaluated: plant height; length, width and thickness of cladode;...

PRODUCTIVITY, FRUIT PHYSICOCHEMICAL QUALITY AND DISTINCTIVENESS OF PASSION FRUIT POPULATIONS Rev. Bras. Frutic.
CAVALCANTE,NATAN RAMOS; KRAUSE,WILLIAN; CARVALHO,JOICE FERNANDES DE; ROCHA,MARIA KERHOLAYNE PEREIRA; PALÚ,EDNAMAR GABRIELA; SILVA,CELICE ALEXANDRE.
ABSTRACT The productivity and physicochemical quality evaluation is important, as it identifies superior populations. However, launching products requires following the descriptors according to DHE test instructions. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate three passion fruit populations with high productivity and physicochemical quality characteristics for commercial launch. The experiment was conducted at the State University of Mato Grosso experimental area, located in the municipality of Tangará da Serra, MT. The experimental design was complete randomized block design with four replicates and ten plants per plot. The physicochemical characteristics were submitted to analysis of variance and compared by the Tukey test. For the distinctiveness test, 25...
