Impact of Income on Price and Income Responses in the Differential Demand System AgEcon
Brown, Mark G..
An extension of the differential demand system model is developed that allows the demand system’s income and price responses to vary with income level. The model’s income flexibility and marginal propensities to consume (MPCs) out of income are made functions of real income measured by the Divisia volume index. The income flexibility is a factor of proportionality underlying all price effects and a change in this term impacts the sensitivity of all demands to prices. Price effects are also made a function of the MPCs using a uniform substitute specification. The model was used to analyze the conditional demands for a group of beverages. The findings indicate that changes in conditional total beverage expenditures result in various income and price...

Technology in the Differential Input Demand Model AgEcon
Brown, Mark G.; Lee, Jonq-Ying.
This study considers incorporating changes in technology in the differential input demand system through effects on output and input marginal products. The effects of technology on input demand are related to Slutsky coefficients and input shares of marginal cost. Technology effects on marginal-product changes are viewed as price changes, and restrictions on technology are considered.

QUASI SEPARABILITY: A DIFFERENTIAL DEMAND SYSTEM APPROACH AgEcon
Brown, Mark G.; Lee, Jonq-Ying.
A differential demand system for quasi separability is developed, following the approach used by Theil et al. in developing the Working-PI time series model. The Slutsky coefficients vary with commodity budget shares and intergroup substitution depends on group compensated price effects.

A dynamic differential demand system: an application of translation AgEcon
Brown, Mark G..
The differential demand system or Rotterdam model is extended to include lagged consumption through translation parameters, providing an alternative to simply adding constant terms to the model to allow for trends in consumption and changes in tastes. Application of the model to four broadly defined groups of goods indicates significant lag effects, resulting in differences in short-run and long-run income and price responses.
