The Effect of Different Weed Management Strategies on the Growth and Yield of Direct-Seeded Dry Rice (Oryza sativa) 87
MUHAMMAD,S.; MUHAMMAD,I.; SAJID,A.; MUHAMMAD,L.; MAQSHOOF,A.; NADEEM,A..
Weed management is a primary concern in direct seeded rice (DSR) cropping because weed growth becomes a major constraint on crop yield. A two year field study was set up to evaluate the effect of various weed control measures on crop growth, grain yield and grain quality of DSR. The experiment involved five different weed control measures: hand weeding, hoeing, inter-row tine cultivation, inter-row spike hoeing and herbicide treatment (Nominee 100 SC). The extent of weed control (compared to a non-weeded control) ranged from 50-95%. The highest crop yield was obtained using hand weeding. Hand weeding, tine cultivation and herbicide treatment raised the number of fertile rice tillers formed per unit area and the thousand grain weight. Tine cultivation...

Technical Efficiency of Resource-Conserving Technologies in Rice -Wheat Systems: The Case of Bihar and Eastern Uttar Pradesh in India 31
Dung, Khong Tien; Sumalde, Zenaida M.; Pede, Valerien O.; McKinley, Justin D.; Garcia, Yolanda T.; Bello, Amelia L..
This study has evaluated the technical efficiency of farmers engaged in rice-wheat cropping systems in North-eastern India, who are using Resource-Conserving Technologies (RCTs) such as Zero Tillage (ZT) and Direct Seeded Rice (DSR). These technology promotions are being carried out under the intervention of the Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia (CSISA) project, primarily funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The resource-conserving technologies are being promoted as part of conservation agriculture supported by the project. The data used in this study have been derived from the socioeconomic surveys conducted in Eastern Uttar-Pradesh and Bihar in North-eastern India during the kharif season of 2009 and rabi season of 2010. A stochastic...

การเปรียบเทียบวิธีการเตรียมดินสำหรับนาหว่านข้าวแห้งในพื้นที่ทุ่งสัมฤทธิ์ 106
Sommai Lertna; Phakatip Lertna; Phiboonwat Youngsuk.
Comparison of soil preparation methods for direct-seeded rice in Tung Samrit area was conducted in order to evaluate the effectiveness of suitable dry direct seeding technique. The experiment was carried out in farmer’ fields in wet season 2012 using an RCB design with 4 replicates. Five treatments were tested consisting of 1) 2 ploughs, sowing and raking, 2) 1 plough, sowing and covering dry soil using a rotary, 3) 1 plough, sowing and covering moist soil using a rotary, 4) 2 ploughs, sowing and covering dry soil using a rotary, and 5) 2 ploughs, sowing and covering moist soil using a rotary. The results showed that the treatment 1 gave the highest plant density of 374 plants/sq.m. Both treatment 4 and 5 gave highest plant height of 142 – 144 cm. However,...
