FLOW PROPERTIES AND PATTERN FLOW PREDICTION OF FOOD INDUSTRIAL POWDERS REA
Lopes Neto,José P.; Meira,Ariadne S.; Nascimento,José W. B. do.
ABSTRACT: More and more industries are faced with new products that need to be stored in silos which, in general, require knowledge of their physical properties and, above all, flow. Food industries are among those using powders as raw materials likely to develop functional problems. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate the flow properties of six food powders using equipment called Powder Flow Tester, and the results were compared with those recommended by the Eurocode 1 Part 4 international standard. Wide range of variation in the flow properties responses was observed, suggesting that their expression through a single average value may not be suitable for vertical silos. It was concluded that only the bulk density of products is in...

Effect of Agricultural Activity on River Water Quality: A Case Study for the Lower Colorado River Basin AgEcon
Adusumilli, Naveen C.; Lacewell, Ronald D.; Rister, M. Edward; Woodard, Joshua D.; Sturdivant, Allen W..
This case study investigates the effect of a change in cropping pattern involving expanded acres of crops for biofuel feedstock, on the discharge of nutrients to rivers. Annual data from 1968-2008 on stream flow, cropped acres, and precipitation for Wharton County, Texas are used. A positive impact of increased corn acreage over this period on river discharge is identified.

Hydrologic pulses and remaining natural vegetation in Jaú and Jacaré-Pepira watersheds BABT
Rezende,Jozrael Henriques; Pires,José Salatiel Rodrigues; Mendiondo,Eduardo Mario.
The aim of this work was to study the influence of natural vegetation in two subwatersheds of the Tietê-Jacaré Water Resources Management Unit in São Paulo State on the pulse of their rivers. In Jacaré-Pepira Subwatershed, having higher remaining cover index, pulses were more predictable and had lower amplitude in the study period, indicating less perturbation of the water body and higher resilience of the aquatic ecosystem. Jacaré-Pepira River specific mean discharge was higher than the Q5% calculated through the Hydrologic Regionalization Method for São Paulo State, whereas Jaú River mean discharge was lower than Q5%. The minimum discharge recorded for Jacaré-Pepira River was higher than Q7.10 and equal to Q95%, whereas for Jaú River this value was...

Dissolved Nitrogen and Phosphorus Dynamics in the Lower Portion of the Paraiba do Sul River, Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ, Brazil BABT
Silva,Mônica Aparecida Leite; Calasans,Claudia Ferreira; Ovalle,Alvaro Ramon Coelho; Rezende,Carlos Eduardo.
The Paraíba do Sul river lower reach was monitored monthly between August 1995 and July 1996. This study was aimed at evaluating the temporal dynamics of dissolved nitrogen and phosphorus and its main controlling factors. Minimum and maximum observed values were as follows: N-NO2- - 0.08/0.51; N-NO3- - 21/57; N-NH4+ - 1.4/6.7; DON - 4.9/86.0; DIN -24.5/60.9; P-PO4(3-) - 0.43/1.66; DOP - 0.05/0.92; pH - 6.2/7.8; Dissolved Oxygen - 6.4/10.1; Conductivity - 48/74; Temperature - 20.5/31.1 (Nutrients - µM; Dissolved Oxygen - mg/l; Conductivity - µS/cm; Temperature - °C). Discharge presented a characteristic seasonal variation, showing a peak in January. Increasing P-PO4(3-), DOP, N-NH4+ and N-NO2- concentrations with increasing discharges could be associated to...
