Prostatic and testicular hemodynamic changes in dogs with untreated benign prostatic hyperplasia and treated with finasteride MV&Z
Angrimani, Daniel de Souza Ramos; Brito, Maíra Morales; Abreu, Renata Azevedo de; Almeida, Leticia Lima de; Nichi, Marcílio; Vannucchi, Camila Infantosi.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of finasteride treatment on prostatic and testicular hemodynamic and vascular variables in dogs with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Ten dogs aged between 5 and 13 years were selected and assigned to two experimental groups: dogs with BPH (BPH, n=5), and dogs with BPH treated with finasteride (BPH+F, n=5). Three monthly evaluations were performed (day 0 – onset of finasteride treatment, day 30 and day 60). Testicular and prostatic volumes were measured through mode-B ultrasound; prostatic vascularization score (1-3) was measured with the color Doppler ultrasound; and the hemodynamic profile of the prostatic and testicular arteries was measured with spectral Doppler. A reduction of 35.2% in the prostate...

Transcranial duplex doppler ultrasonography in dogs with hydrocephalus Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Carvalho,C.F.; Chammas,M.C.; Andrade Neto,J.P.; Jimenez,C.D.; Diniz,S.A.; Cerri,G.G..
Transcranial duplex Doppler ultrasound was performed in 32 conscious dogs presenting ventriculomegaly detected in B-mode, obtaining measures of lateral ventricles and resistance parameters of main cerebral arteries before and after 30 days of clinical treatment. The animals were distributed divided in two groups: group 1, dogs that presented remission or decrease of the neurological signs of the disease after clinical therapy; and group 2, dogs that displayed worsening of the neurological signs or clinical stability. The data were all presented in tables and were submitted to paired t test and to logistic regression models to evaluate the influence of the RI reduction on both groups. There was no significant influence of the variables in the B-mode. After...

Scintigraphy and Doppler ultrasonography for the evaluation of obstructive urinary calculi BJMBR
Gandolpho,L.; Sevillano,M.; Barbieri,A.; Ajzen,S.; Schor,N.; Ortiz,V.; Heilberg,I.P..
Forty-seven patients with unilateral obstructive calculi (12 males and 35 females) were submitted to 99mTc-diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) or 99mTc-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scans for assessment of renal function. The scans revealed unilateral functional deficit in 68 and 66% of the patients, respectively. A calculus size of 1.1 to 2.0 cm was significantly associated with deficit detected by DTPA, but duration of obstruction and calculus localization were not. After relief of the obstruction, the mean percent renal function of the affected kidney was found to be significantly increased from 25 ± 12% to 29 ± 12% in DTPA and from 21 ± 15% to 24 ± 12% in DMSA. Initial Doppler ultrasonography performed in 35 patients detected an increased...

Systolic blood pressure of dogs at hospital and domestic environment Ciência Rural
Soares,Frederico Aécio Carvalho; Neuwald,Elisa Barp; Mombach,Verônica Santos; D'Avila,Ana Elize Ribeiro; Conrado,Francisco de Oliveira; González,Félix Hilario Diaz.
The measurement of blood pressure (BP) is an important assessment of the cardiovascular system, being influenced by physical and pathological conditions. Certain situations of stress and anxiety during BP measurement can lead to elevated values in small animals, known in medicine as "white coat effect". The aim of this research was to compare systolic blood pressure (SBP) measurement using Doppler ultrasonography in 45 adult healthy dogs in two environments, at a veterinary hospital and at home. Comparison of heart rate, serum concentrations of cortisol and glucose intended to help the evaluation of the stress level of the animals. The mean of SBP at the veterinary hospital was 154.7mmHg and it was significantly (P<0.01) higher than at home (136.3mmHg)....
