Sodium and nitrate favor the steady state of cyanobacteria in a semiarid ecosystem Biological Sciences
Oliviera, Fábio Henrique Portella Corrêa de; Dantas, Ênio Wocyli.
This study characterized steady state events (SS) in a semiarid reservoir (Brazil) dominated by cyanobacteria for 130 weeks, and evaluated the influence of different abiotic variables on their occurrence. It was hypothesized that, in semiarid reservoirs, steady state events are independent from seasonality and influenced by high nutrient concentrations, and steady state periods show low variation of species. Our data revealed the occurrence of SS events in both the dry and wet seasons. Higher concentrations of nitrate and sodium together with higher values of color favored the development of SS. Species composing the SS dominated by Microcystis aeruginosa (Kützing) Kützing was correlated with higher sulfate concentrations, while higher values of turbidity...

Multi-time Scale Analysis on the Cultivated Land Quantity in China AgEcon
Liu, Zhiling; Sun, Yan.
This paper briefly introduces the concrete steps of EMD (Empirical Mode Decomposition) method, and applies EMD method into the multi-time scale analysis on fluctuation of cultivated land quantity and its driving force in China since 1949. We also reveal the fluctuation law in the amount of cultivated land quantity. At the same time, based on the fluctuation of different time scales, qualitative forecast on the fluctuation trend of cultivated land quantity in China in future is carried out in order to offer references for establishing prediction model of cultivated land quantity. Research result shows that downward trend of cultivated land quantity is inevitable in China in the future, showing a basic form of an exponential decline during a short period of...

Variation of Cultivated Land Quantity in Coastal Cities and Its Driving Forces - A Case of Huludao City, China AgEcon
Li-juan, Tang; Lei, Lei; Ling, Cao.
Variation of cultivated land quality in 10 major cities and its driving forces are introduced in recent 10 years. And economic development and population growth are the common driving forces for the reduction of cultivated land in coastal cities. Among them, economic development is the main driving force. Taking Huludao City as an example, driving factors of cultivated land variation in Huludao City are studied by Principal Component Analysis according to the relevant statistical data in the year 1998-2007. Result shows that in recent 10 years, total cultivated land area has increased in Huludao City, especially in the years 1998-2002. Driving force of cultivated land variation in Huludao City can be summarized as economic growth, population growth and...

Study on Farmland Use Change and Driving Force in the High and Cold Areas in Northwest Yunnan-A Case Study of Ninglang Yi Autonomous County AgEcon
Luo, Li; Yang, Zi-sheng; Kang, Yun-hai.
On the basis of overview of the study area, by analyzing the dynamic change of farmland in Ninglang County, we can find that the farmland area in this county tended to decrease from 1996 to 2008. According to the investigation data concerning land change provided by Bureau of Land and Resources in Ninglang County and socio-economic data provided by Bureau of Statistics in Ninglang County, we select 11 indices, such as total population, GDP, total output value of county and so on, coupled with SPSS statistical method, we adopt principal component analysis method to analyze driving force factors of farmland use change in the high and cold areas in Northwest Yunnan. The results show that the two factors of economic development and population growth are the...
