Growth, Shedding and Food Intake in Captive Eunectes murinus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Serpentes: Boidae) International Journal of Morphology
Lamonica,Rita de Cássia; Abrahao-Charles,Henrique; Loguercio,Mariana Fiuza de Castro; Rocha-Barbosa,Osear.
The anaconda Eunectes murinus (Linnaeus, 1758) inhabits large hydrographic basins in tropical America and figures among the world's largest snakes, attaining a length of 12 m. This study analyzed the growth of three female anaconda siblings, with records from their birth in captivity up to around 14 months of age. The snakes were kept in a controlled environment with constant temperature and data related to biometry, feeding and skin shedding were recorded. At the end of these 445 days, the siblings had grown on average 2.6 times their initial length and increased their initial weight by 3830.lOg, incorporating about 43.5% of total food ingested to their body mass. They showed a total of 0.69 skin sheddings per month in that period, and did not exhibit...

New records of plants fed upon by the uncommon Heteropterans Cyrtocoris egeris Packauskas & Schaefer and C. trigonus (Germar) (Hemiptera: Cyrtocoridae) in South America Neotropical Entomology
Schaefer,Carl W.; Panizzi,Antônio R.; Coscarón,Maria C..
During March 2000, nymphs and adults of the cyrtocorid bugs Cyrtocoris egeris Packauskas & Schaefer and C. trigonus (Germar) were observed on two different plants at two different localities. In Brazil (Londrina, Paraná State) adult C. trigonus were found feeding on stems of the weed plant arrow leaf sida, Sida rhombifolia L. (Malvaceae). Despite egg deposition in the laboratory, nymphs did not develop on this plant. In Argentina (Reconquista, Santa Fé Province), nymphs and adults of C. egeris were observed feeding on immature soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] pods. Under laboratory conditions, nymphs of neither species could be reared beyond the third instar.

Ontogeny, structure and moulting of Parabolina frequens argentina (Kayser) (Trilobita, Olenidae) from the Furongian of northwestern Argentina Ameghiniana
Tortello,M. Franco; Clarkson,Euan N.K..
Parabolina frequens argentina (Kayser) (Trilobita, Olenidae) is a guide fossil occurring in different assemblages and lithologies of the upper Cambrian (Furongian) of northwestern Argentina. The black and dark grey shales of the Lampazar Formation at sierra de Cajas and the Santa Rosita Formation (lower part) at Iruya and Alfarcito (Jujuy and Salta provinces) contain numerous well-preserved specimens at different stages of development. The juveniles represent anaprotaspis, metaprotaspis and degrees 0-11 meraspis. The latter exhibit a high variability related with the pattern of glabellar furrows and lobes, the sagittal length of the thoracic segments, the splay and length of the genal and thoracic spines, the relative width of the axis, and the relative...

Lesions (ulcers and/or erosions) and desquamations location in the gastric mucosa from asymptomatic Quarter Horse foals: endoscopic survey Braz. J. Vet. Res. Anim. Sci.
DEARO,Antonio Cezar de Oliveira; LOPES,Marco Aurélio Ferreira; GANDOLFI,Waldir.
Gastric ulcer accounts for an important cause of abdominal discomfort in young horses. Concerning either the presence or absence of clinical signs and their variations, the lesions location in the gastric mucosa and complications resulting from ulcerative lesions, four clinical syndromes have been described in foals: 1) Asymptomatic or silent ulcers; 2) Symptomatic or active ulcers; 3) Perforated ulcers; and 4) Gastric or duodenal obstruction. With the aim of studying the distribution of lesions (ulcers and/or erosions) and desquamations from the non-glandular epithelium in the gastric mucosa of young horses and a possible relationship between both alterations (lesion/desquamation), sixty Quarter Horse foals without signs of gastric disease underwent...
