POSSIBILITIES FOR ECOHYDROLOGICAL MONITORING IN NATURAL AND MANAGED ECOSYSTEMS IN SOUTHERN CHILE Gayana Botánica
Peters,Jan; Wieme,Vanessa; Boeckx,Pascal; Samson,Roeland; Godoy,Roberto; Oyarzún,Carlos; Verhoest,Niko.
Ecohydrology investigates how hydrological processes affect plant growth and vice versa. As these mutual interactions are important in many ecosystems, ecohydrology has wide applicability. An important aspect of ecohydrological research is the assessment and prediction of the occurrence of plant species or vegetation types in relation to hydrological or hydrogeochemical habitat conditions. Several models have been developed (e.g. DEMNAT, ICHORS, ITORS, ITORS-VL). All of these models are data driven. Consequently a monitoring network has to be installed, possibly in addition to existing databases. These networks are ecosystem specific but the most widely monitored variables are: water table depth, electric conductivity of groundwater, soil moisture content...

Relevance of wood anatomy and size of Amazonian trees in the determination and allometry of sapwood area Acta Amazonica
APARECIDO,Luiza Maria Teophilo; SANTOS,Joaquim dos; HIGUCHI,Niro; KUNERT,Norbert.
ABSTRACT Hydrological processes in forest stands are mainly influenced by tree species composition and morpho-physiological characteristics. Few studies on anatomical patterns that govern plant hydraulics were conducted in tropical forest ecosystems. Thus, we used dye immersion to analyze sapwood area patterns of 34 trees belonging to 26 species from a terra firme forest in the central Brazilian Amazon. The sapwood area was related with wood anatomy and tree size parameters (diameter-at-breast-height - DBH, total height and estimated whole-tree volume). Exponential allometric equations were used to model sapwood area using the biometrical variables measured. Sapwood area traits (cross-section non-uniformity and heartwood visibility) varied significantly...

Ecohydrological modeling and environmental flow regime in the Formoso River, Minas Gerais State, Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
GUEDES,HUGO A. S.; SILVA,DEMETRIUS D.; DERGAM,JORGE A.; ELESBON,ABRAHÃO A. A..
ABSTRACT This paper aimed at determining the environmental flow regime in a 1 km stretch of the Formoso River, MG, using River2D model. To carry out the ecohydrological modeling, the following information was used: bathymetry, physical and hydraulic features, and the Habitat Suitability Index for species of the Hypostomus auroguttatus. In the River2D, the Weighted Usable Areas were determined from the average long-term streamflows with percentage from 10% to 100%. Those streamflows were simulated for the later construction of optimization matrices that maximize the habitat area throughout the year. For H. auroguttatus Juvenile, higher values of Weighted Usable Area were associated with the percentage of 60% and 70% of the average long-term streamflows in...
