The present paper deals with the creation of maps for the sake of a special map portal using the database of eco farms in the Czech Republic. The map output is being developed and implemented within the framework of the Research Program in mutual cooperation of the Department of Information Technologies, Information and Consulting Centre, other departments of the Faculty of Economics and Management CULS Prague with external partners, especially with the Ministry of Agriculture (Environment and Ecological Agriculture Section, Department of Ecological Agriculture) and the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Information (UZEI) - Division of Agro-environmental Policy in Brno. The maps are visualized by means of MPPR 1.0 system and have been processed – in...

Ecological engineering: a new direction for agricultural pest management AgEcon
Gurr, Geoff M.; Wratten, Steve D.; Altieri, Miguel A..
Ecological engineering has recently emerged as a paradigm for considering pest management approaches that are based on cultural practices and informed by ecological knowledge rather than on high technology approaches such as synthetic pesticides and genetically engineered crops (Gurr et al. 2004a). This article provides a brief summary of ecological engineering for arthropod pest management and contrasts it with its controversial cousin, genetic engineering. The development of ecological engineering is explored, ranging from a simple first approximation that diversity is beneficial, to contemporary understanding that diversity can have adverse effects on pest management. This requires that the functional mechanisms that lead components of biodiversity to...

Contrastive Research on Domestic and Foreign Ecological Agriculture Policies AgEcon
Chen, Jianwei; Qi, Yan-bin; Zhao, Yufeng.
In the first place, the definitions of ecological agriculture defined by scholars both at home and abroad are introduced. In the second place, the domestic and foreign ecological agriculture policies are expounded. Through contrastive research on the domestic and foreign ecological agriculture polices, the problems in the development of ecological agriculture in China are found. By mirroring the western experiences in developing ecological agriculture, the countermeasures and relevant suggestions are put forward from the perspective of government. The first one is to increase the subsidies from the government to ecological agriculture. The second one is to clarify the standard of ecological agriculture construction. The third one is to promote the...

The Construction of Ecological Agriculture in Gongcheng County and Its Development Ideas AgEcon
Zhong, Li-chuan; Zhou, Xiao-huan; Zhang, Hui-na.
On the basis of survey of current situations of eco-agricultural construction in Gongcheng County, major “Cultivation + Methane + Planting triple model of ecological agriculture in Gongcheng County is presented. Then, the eco-agricultural benefits of Gongcheng County are analyzed from three aspects, namely economic, social and ecological benefits. Through summing up, the eco-agricultural construction of Gongcheng County has following problems: imperfect ecological technological system; follow-up service level and ability to be improved; slow in unified planning and design and industrialization step. Finally, ideas of further development of ecological agriculture in Gongcheng County are put forward. These include proper planning and overall management,...

The Evaluation on Ecological Agricultural Development in Sichuan Province on the Basis of Grey Relational Analysis AgEcon
Jiang, Ling; Qi, Yan-bin.
By using the grey relational model, 14 indexes of ecological agricultural development in Sichuan Province from 1997 to 2008 are analyzed. According to the relational degree results, the ecological agricultural development in 12 years can be divided into three stages: the first stage is from 1997 to 2000, with the shape of inverted U; the second stage is from 2001 to 2004, belonging to transition stage with slow growth rate; the third stage is from 2005 to 2008,belonging to the stage of rapid growth. It draws conclusion that per capita grain yield is an important element for evaluating ecological agricultural construction. Besides, reducing the energy consumption of per unit production, improving labor productivity and increasing agricultural science and...

Sociological Consideration on the Development of Ecological Agriculture in Western China AgEcon
Zhao, Guiting.
Development of ecological agriculture is the mainstream of the world's agricultural development, as well as the only way to change from traditional agriculture to modern agriculture. This paper expatiates the connotation of ecological agriculture and its significance to the development of western China. There are problems in the development of ecological agriculture in western China, manifested mainly in insufficient subsequent supply, overextension of resources, lack of capital and technology input in the development of ecological agriculture, and imperfect supporting policies. From the new perspective of sociology, countermeasures for developing western ecological agriculture are put forward, including improving the scientific and cultural quality of...

Closed-loop Supply Chain Mode of Ecological Agriculture Embedded with Knowledge Scheme AgEcon
Qin, Li-hong; Ding, Chao-xun; Wang, Dong.
According to the theoretical and practical experiences of agricultural supply chain both at home and abroad and the principles of profitability, efficiency, sustainable development, closed-loop supply chain mode of ecological agriculture embedded with knowledge scheme is constructed based on the urban and rural two-way logistics system. This mode is embedded with technical knowledge program of eco-crop cultivation and management during the logistics distribution of agriculture means of production. Profit is obtained through the connection between eco-agricultural production base and market. Support system of this mode is introduced, including technology, policy, management, human resources and financial support. Stage characteristics and evolutionary...

Soil Microbial Community Structure and Diversity in Cut Flower Cultures Under Conventional and Ecological Management Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Santamaría,Johanna; Parrado,Carmen Alicia; López,Liliana.
ABSTRACT Microorganisms are excellent soil quality indicators because their properties within the soil community change quickly in response to changes in the surrounding environment. The aim of this study was to determine if the structure and diversity of soil bacterial and fungal communities were useful for discriminating cut flower cultures under conventional (CM), ecological (EM), and intermediate (IM) management practices. Results obtained by PCR-DGGE revealed that bacteria had lower similarity in structure and higher diversity under EM than under CM. Sites under IM showed greater similarities in structure and diversity to the site under CM, although there were still significant differences between them. Fungal structure showed higher similarity among...

Organic Versus Conventional Methods of Fertilization and Weed Control in a Long Term Rotation of Cereals in Semiarid Spain Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Pardo,Gabriel; Aibar,Joaquín; Ciria,Pilar; Lacasta,Carlos; Lezaún,Juan Antonio; Zaragoza,Carlos.
Under semiarid conditions the response of cereal crops to chemical fertilizers and weed control practices with herbicides is often reduced. In fact, the economic profitability of agricultural production in many dryland regions is critically affected by high costs of inputs and low crop yields. As a solution, cropping systems like organic farming, obtaining similar yields and promoting environmental sustainability by reducing fertilizer and herbicides, could be an alternative to conventional systems. In this study, 23 trials were performed in five semiarid regions of Spain during 5 yr to compare different fertilizers and weed control methods on durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) and barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) yields. The following rotation pattern was...
