| A variety of methods, ranging from natural to artificial, which have been practiced for producing agarwood and the economic opportunity related with this field in Bangladesh were reviewed. The anatomy of agar tree was also described. Agarwood is the fragrant resin-infused wood derived from the wounded trees of Aquilaria species. It is a valuable non-timber forest product used in fragrances and medicine. Artificial agarwood inducing methods serve as a way to supply agarwood and conserve the wild Aquilaria stock. | Although scientists and policy makers embrace the general concept "sustainable development", there are few who agree on how to carry out sustainable development in specific situations. As such, sustainable development projects among ethnoscientists are widely critiqued as to how well they are inter-culturally formulated. Here we report on a controversial case of planting coconuts in Kayapó Indian villages of southern Pará, Brazil and offer our own self-critique. | El trabajo doméstico en el sector rural atiende las necesidades básicas de las familias, así mismo contribuye a la económica familiar, generando ahorro en las mismas. También colabora con la producción del campo, el cuidado y crianza de animales. Las mujeres que realizan dicho trabajo no son reconocidas ni valoradas por los integrantes de las familias, ni por la sociedad en general. Por eso resulta necesaria la visibilización del trabajo doméstico así como la remuneración del mismo para que las mujeres accedan derechos laborales como cualquier persona que trabaja. | This study aimed to apply mathematical models to the growth of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) reared in net cages in the lower São Francisco basin and choose the model(s) that best represents the conditions of rearing for the region. Nonlinear models of Brody, Bertalanffy, Logistic, Gompertz, and Richards were tested. The models were adjusted to the series of weight for age according to the methods of Gauss, Newton, Gradiente and Marquardt. It was used the procedure "NLIN" of the System SAS® (2003) to obtain estimates of the parameters from the available data. | Embora o município de Corumbá seja classificado como pecuário, onde se pratica, tradicionalmente, a criação extensiva de bovinos, em pastagens naturais, e possível distinguir dois grupos de sub-regiões com diferentes características quanto a concentração da terra. O primeiro grupo e constituído pelas sub-regiões de Bracinho-Castelo e Jacadigo-Albuquerque, composto de unidades produtivas com área media em torno de 750 ha e com alto índice de concentração fundiária (g = 0,85). | O estudo foi baseado em informacoes de amostragem estratificada de 50 questionarios aplicados em produtores das sub-regioes de Nhecolandia e dos Paiaguas em 1981/82, estudos de casos (1979/83), dados do censo agropecuario de 1980 e informacoes secundarias. O objetivo foi determinar a estrutura produtiva, dotacao, alocacao e eficiencia de uso dos insumos da pecuaria. As inferencias foram baseadas em indices medios e desvios-padrao das variaveis; a interrelacao entre as variaveis foi analisada pelas funcoes de Cobb & Douglas, Ulveling & Fletcher e "path analysis".
