| Based on the types of Edessa rufomarginata (De Geer, 1773) and its synonyms, on morphology of the paramere and coloration, seven patterns are described for E. rufomarginata. Pentatoma furcata Palisot de Beauvois, 1805, Cimex cruentus Fabricius, 1775, Aceratodes flavovirens Stål, 1855 and A. flavomarginatus Stål, 1855 are mantained as junior synonyms of E. rufomarginata. A. albomarginatus Stål, 1855 and A. marginalis Dallas, 1951 are removed from the synonymy of E. rufomarginata and are reinstated in Edessa. Aceratodes discolor Dallas, 1951 is removed from the synonymy of E. rufomarginata and is considered junior synonym of Edessa abdominalis Erichson, 1848. |

| Neste trabalho é proposto o grupo Edessa rufomarginata, que inclui E. rufomarginata (De Geer, 1773), E. marginalis (Dallas, 1851), E. albomarginata (Stål, 1855), E. abdominalis Erichson, 1848, E. corallipes Erichson, 1848, E. aulacosterna Stål, 1872, E. ovalis Stål, 1872 e E. nigropunctata Berg, 1884. São descritas sete novas espécies pertencentes ao grupo, seis do Brasil e uma da Argentina: E. brasiliensis sp. nov., E. castaneolineata sp. nov., E. cerradensis sp. nov., E. chapadensis sp. nov., E. luteovenulata sp. nov., E. rufodorsata sp. nov. (Argentina) e E. virididorsata sp. nov. As espécies deste grupo ocorrem na Venezuela, Suriname, Guiana, Brasil, Paraguai e Argentina. |

| Brachystethus Laporte, 1832 is revised. Brachystethus coxalis Breddin, 1904, B. cribrus (Fabricius, 1781), B. geniculatus (Fabricius, 1787), B. improvisus Breddin, 1905, B. rubromaculatus Dallas, 1851, B. signoreti Stål, 1872, B. tricolor Bolívar, 1879, B. vexillum Breddin, 1903 and B. vicinus Signoret, 1851 are redescribed based on morphological characters, with emphasis on genitalia of both sexes. A new species, B. schuhi, from Guyana, is described, and B. discolor (Walker, 1867), incertae sedis, is removed from the genus. Illustrations and a key for species of Brachystethus are provided. |

| The E. collaris group of Edessa Fabricius, 1803 (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae: Edessinae) is proposed and the species are described, including one new to science. This group includes two South American (Edessa collaris Dallas, 1851 and E. epulo Kirkaldy, 1909) and two Central American species (E. lineigera Stål, 1862 and E. panamensis spec. nov.). E. lineifera Bergroth, 1891, is considered to be a junior synonym of E. collaris Dallas, 1851. The Lectotypes of E. collaris and E. lineigera are designated. |

| The E. cervus-group of Edessa Fabricius, 1803 (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae: Edessinae) from South and Central America, is proposed to include the Edessa species with the apices of the long cylindrical humeral angles bifurcated. Three new and three described species are included: Edessa cervus (Fabricius, 1787), Edessa cerastes Breddin, 1905, Edessa elaphus Breddin, 1905, Edessa burmeisteri spec. nov., Edessa peruviana spec. nov., Edessa rondoniensis spec. nov.; their external genital characters and the metasternum of E. burmeisteri are illustrated and their distribution is given. The males of Edessa cerastes Breddin, 1905, and Edessa elaphus Breddin, 1905, which were unknown until now, are described. |

| The E. dolichocera-group of Edessa Fabricius, 1803 (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae: Edessinae) is proposed and the species are described, including two new to science. This group includes three South American species: Edessa dolichocera (Lichtenstein, 1795), E. guyanensis spec. nov. and E. nigromaculata spec. nov. E. ductor Walker, 1868 is considered to be a junior synonym of E. dolichocera (Lichtenstein, 1795).
