Removal of nitrogen, phosphorus, copper and zinc from swine breeding waste water by bermudagrass and cattail in constructed wetland systems REA
Fia,Ronaldo; Boas,Regina B. Vilas; Campos,Alessandro T.; Fia,Fátima R. L.; Souza,Edson G. De.
This work aimed to study the agronomic performance and capacity of nutrient removal by bermudagrass (Cynodon spp.) and cattail (Typha sp.) when grown in constructed wetlands systems (CWSs) of vertical and horizontal flow, respectively, used in the post-treatment of swine breeding wastewater (ARS). The average yield of dry matter (DM) of bermudagrass in sections of 60-day interval ranged from 14 to 43 t ha-1, while the cultivated cattail produced in a single cut after 200 days of cultivation between 45 and 67 t ha-1 of DM. Bermudagrass extracted up to 17.65 kg ha-1 d-1 of nitrogen, 1.76 kg ha-1 d-1 of phosphorus, 6.67 g ha-1 d-1 of copper and 54.75 g ha-1 d-1 of zinc. Cattail extracted up to 5.10 kg ha-1 d-1 of nitrogen, 1.07 kg ha-1 d-1 of phosphorus, 1.41...

Des systèmes intégrés multi-trophiques pour une aquaculture durable ArchiMer
Hussenot, Jerome; Richard, M..
Within the SEACASE European project on sustainable extensive and semi-intensive aquaculture in Southern Europe (SEACASE), an information day on integrated multi-trophic aquaculture systems (IMTA) has been organized by Ifremer in Rochefort sur Mer, with the participation of other French partners of the project. After presenting the concept of IMTA, modern polyculture, the contents of the European research project SEACASE, and recent research carried out also were exposed. The interest of these systems and their implementation in future years to develop sustainable aquaculture has been discussed in a debate between the various participants.

Consortium of Microalgae for Tannery Effluent Treatment BABT
Pena,Aline de Cassia Campos; Bertoldi,Crislaine Fabiana; Fontoura,Juliana Tolfo da; Trierweiler,Luciane Ferreira; Gutterres,Mariliz.
Abstract Wastewater generated in tanneries have essential elements for microalgae growth, but it has also some toxic compounds that may hinder or restrain the growth of microalgae in this environment. This work tested microalgae consortium growth originating from a deactivated effluent treatment decanter of a complete tannery (beamhouse to finished leather) for the treatment of wastewater of a tannery processing wet-blue leather to finished leather. It was initially evaluated the growth of the microalgae consortium in the three effluents diluted in 50% distilled water: raw effluent (50RE50W), effluent after primary coagulation/flocculation (50PE50W), and effluent after primary and secondary biological treatment (50BE50W). After 16 days of cultivation, the...

Microalgae population dynamics in photobioreactors with secondary sewage effluent as culture medium BJM
Marchello,Adriano E.; Lombardi,Ana T.; Dellamano-Oliveira,Maria José; Souza,Clovis W.O. de.
Nitrogen and phosphorus present in sewage can be used for microalgae growth, possibiliting cost reduction in the production of microalgae at the same time that it decreases the eutrophication potential of the effluent. This research aimed at monitoring the native community of microalgae and coliform bacteria in a secondary effluent from anaerobic municipal sewage treatment. Two treatments (aerated and non-aerated) were performed to grow microalgae under semi-controlled conditions in semi-closed photobioreactors in a greenhouse. The results showed no significant pH and coliforms (total and Escherichia coli) variation between treatments. Nutrient concentrations were reduced supporting microalgae growth up to 107 cells.mL−1independent of aeration. Exponential...

Development of a water recirculating system for bullfrog production: technological innovation for small farmers Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Mello,Sílvia Conceição Reis Pereira; Oliveira,Roberto Rodrigues de; Pereira,Marcelo Maia; Rodrigues,Eliane; Silva,Willian Nascimento; Seixas Filho,José Teixeira de.
ABSTRACT Despite the technological progress in frog farming, issues related to the environment, biosafety, and the use of technologies that minimise environmental impacts are frequently neglected by farmers. With the goal of developing a low-cost technology for reuse and preservation of water quality, an anaerobic filtering system combined with an aerobic filtering system was implemented in the grow-out sector in the Frog Culture Research Unit at Fundação Instituto de Pesca do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (FIPERJ). The filtering system received the effluent from six pens of frogs that were populated with 362 frogs in different development phases. The efficiency of the filtering system was evaluated by an analysis of the water before and after passing through...

Production of lipase extrated from aqueous waste: enzymatic activity kinetics Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Oliveira,Tatianne Ferreira de; Hidálgo,Maria Raquel; Soares Júnior,Manoel Soares.
Lipases are an important group of enzymes with various applications in the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industry, besides having great interest for the treatment of effluents with high lipid content. The objective of this study was to isolate, characterize and select lipolytic bacteria that produce lipase from aqueous waste effluents and to study the enzymatic activity kinetics of the extract obtained via submerged fermentation. The results obtained are promising, being possible to isolate and characterize 23 lipase-producing microorganisms, mostly gram-positive bacteria, but after the fermentation step in a liquid medium, gram negative bacteria showed the highest enzymatic activity (56.72 U.L-1 for STP 2A` bacterium and 81.99 U.L-1 for R2B). In the...
