The effects of floral location on the physicochemical and thermal parameters of honey samples from Enugu North senatorial zone were evaluated. Floral location had significant effects (P 0.05) on viscosity, electrical conductivity, sugar content, free acidity, ach content, moisture content, density, pH, colour, thermal heat conductivity and thermal heat diffusivity except, F/G ratio and specific heat capacity. Honeys from Igbo-Eze South were more viscose than the rest of the honey samples from other floral locations, with a mean viscosity value at 25 oC (15.58cSt) higher than that at 60 oC (12.63cSt). The electrical conductivity, ash content, moisture content and density ranged between 226.5 - 211.45 µS cm-1, 0.06 - 0.57%, 16.59 – 22.55% and 0.82 – 1.25 g... |

Soils in arid or semi-arid areas often have salinity problems, so the quality of irrigation water plays an important role in agricultural production. Groundwater quality analysis includes the determination of chloride ions, which are toxic to plants in high concentrations. A total of 1358 groundwater samples were collected and analyzed in the period 1980-2008. Water electrical conductivity [EC] and chloride ion concentration values were related by the linear equation [Cl-] = 4.928 EC (R> 0.94), to estimate the concentration of chloride ions as a function of the electrical conductivity of water in the study area. A geophysical survey was conducted through 34 Vertical Electrical Soundings (VESs) to calculate the water electrical conductivity from the... |

The effect of the nutrient solution concentration on potato plant growth and minituber yield were determined in a sand closed hydroponic system. Minitubers and micropropagated plantlets of the cv. 'Macaca' were used. Treatments were five nutrient solution concentrations at electrical conductivities (EC) of 1.0 (T1), 2.2 (T2), 3.4 (T3), 4.7 (T4) and 5.8dS m-1 (T5). The split plot randomised experimental design was used with three replications. Plants from minitubers produced higher fresh and mean weight of minitubers, shoot dry mass and leaf area index than the micropropagated ones. However, higher dry mass of minitubers was found with micropropagated plantlets compared to minitubers. The concentration of the nutrient solution did not affect minituber... |

ABSTRACT: Lippia rotundifolia is a native species of the Cerrado, endemic to the chain backbone and highly aromatic, whose essential oil has medicinal properties of high pharmacological value, but because it is a non-domesticated species, little is known about its spread. Due to its importance, the objective was to evaluate the effect of the osmotic conditioning on the physical and physiological quality of seeds. The experimental design was completely randomized with four replications of 100 seeds, being treatments consisted of two kinds of seeds (with and without tegument) subjected to ten days of immersion in water (0, 2, 4, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hours). After each period, the seeds were submitted to the electrical conductivity test and... |

ABSTRACT The recovery of waste from the broiler production chain (BPC) is consistent with the principles of a circular economy. Besides turning waste into organic compost, its use as substrate for the production of vegetable seedlings further increases its economic value. However, it is necessary to adapt its characteristics to enable its use as substrate. To this end, the addition of boiler remnant charcoal wastes (BCW), another type of waste generated in the BPC, to the organic compost resulting from the composting of BPC waste with different bulking agents (BAs) was studied. The addition of BCW to agro-industrial compost reduced the electrical conductivity (EC) of substrates. Multiple linear regression showed that, of the 13 variables (physical,... |

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the adaptability and multi-trait stability of wheat (Triticum aestivum) genotypes according to the phenotypic index of seed vigor (PIV). Thirty wheat genotypes were grown in seven environments in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, during one crop season. In each environment, a randomized complete block design with three replicates was used. The PIV was elaborated from the following traits: first germination count, germination percentage, accelerated aging, and electrical conductivity. The evaluated phenotypic index makes it possible to define macroenvironments for the production of wheat seeds with high physiological potential and to understand the implications of the genotype x environment... |

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the application of ammonium chloride as a nitrogen source for sugarcane (Saccharum sp.) on the development of the crop’s shoot and roots during two consecutive cycles. The experiment was conducted on a Typic Hapludox in the first and second sugarcane ratoons. The treatments consisted of four N doses (50, 100, 150, and 200 kg ha-1) applied as ammonium chloride (NH4Cl), besides a control, without the application of N. The increase in the NH4Cl dose increased in up to three times soil electrical conductivity in the layer of 0.0-0.2 m, with a consequent increase in the concentration of chlorine in leaves. In the second cycle, the contents of chlorine increased in 1,900 mg kg-1 in the leaf with... |

The action of herbicides that affect the integrity of cell membranes and cause leakage, like PPO-inhibitors, can be detected by measuring the electric conductivity (EC) of a solution in which the plant tissue target is incubated in the presence of herbicide. The objectives of this work were to confirm PPO resistance in a new Euphorbia heterophylla (EPHHL) biotype, and to compare the electrolyte leakage from R and S to PPO-inhibitors biotypes, using two different methods of incubation in a solution containing herbicides. One experiment was carried in greenhouse and three in laboratory, with a completely randomized design. In the greenhouse experiment, four biotypes of EPHHL were sprayed with seven rates of fomesafen to confirm resistance in suspected... |

Salinity levels in soils of the Outer Coastal Plain of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, can be high, due to excess of Na in the irrigation water, evapotranspiration and soil development from marine sediments. The cultivation of irrigated rice could be an alternative, since ion uptake as well as leaching by the establishment of a water layer could mitigate the effects of soil salinity. This study aimed to evaluate the dynamics of basic cations in the solution of Albaqualf soils with different salinity levels growing irrigated rice. The plow layer contained exchangeable Na percentages (ESP) of 5.6, 9.0, 21.2 and 32.7 %. The plant stand, dry matter, Na, K and Ca + Mg uptake at full flowering and grain yield were evaluated. The levels of Na, K, Ca + Mg and... |
