| Mankind is seeking to increase the use of renewable energy sources on the world energetic matrix, aiming on Green House Gas Emissions (GHGE) reduction. Biomass potential for energy generation studies, including forest products and residues, have been conducted worldwide, showing great potential. Besides, wood energy uses contribute to GHGE reduction, and is a locally available energy source at competitive costs in many countries. The proportion of fuelwood on Brazilian energy matrix has decreased over the last four decades, nevertheless consumption has increased during the last ten years.
