A 14.4 × 86.0 × 70.0 cm mud evaporative cooler was designed and constructed for the storage of sweet potato roots to evaluate its performance in storing orange fleshed sweet potato variety (Apomuden) roots. The investigation lasted for 14 weeks, from November 2014 to February, 2015. The dry bulb (Tdb) and wet bulb temperatures (Twb) for the ambient storage ranged between 27.600C to 26.900C and 22.500C to 20.100C respectively with their corresponding RH of 64.00%, 77.00% respectively, while Tdb and Twb within the cooler ranged between 25.940C to 24.860C and 21.940C to 20.610C with corresponding R.H of 89.00% to 92.00% respectively. The efficiency of the constructed evaporative cooler was 87.17%. From an initial weight of 2000 g, roots weight decreased to... |

The work aimed at determination of calorific value of municipal solid waste in Enugu, Nigeria and its potential for electricity generation. Random truck sampling was used according to American Society of Test and Material (ASTM) in the collection of samples at Ugwuaji landfill site, Enugu, Nigeria and calorific value was determined using oxygen bomb calorimeter. Enugu has a present population of 882,178 and the amount of municipal solid waste generated in Enugu was estimated to be 420 tonnes daily and this resulted in waste generation rate of 0.48kg/capita/day. The average composition of the municipal solid waste was 39% putrescible, 11% paper, 21% plastics, 5% textile, and 2% metal, 3% glass and 19% others. The average moisture content Volatile... |

We determined the values of apparent metabolizable (AME), apparent corrected (AMEn), true (TME) and true corrected (TMEn) energy of six corn hybrids for broiler chickens in phases 1-7, 8-14, 15-21, 22-28, 29-35 and 36-42 day-old birds, using the substitution method (40%) of reference diet with the test ingredient. Ross-308 male chicks (1,134) were allotted to metabolism cages and the number of birds per experimental unit was adjusted to suit each bird's density stage in the cage, using six replicates. Simultaneously, birds continue to fast for the determination of metabolic and endogenous losses for each study phase. The birds received water and food ad libitum during the experimental period. The birds were maintained in metabolism cages for seven days,... |

This monograph is the first to state by a systematic research the rules which control the production of the organic losses in shape of eggs and exoskeletons during the life of Crustacea. The weight and the energy content of the material thrown out are the chief criteria selected to characterize the germinal production, relative to the egg-mass, and the exuvial production, relative to the organic fraction of the exoskeleton. The determination of these parameters, at the level of the organism or of the population, takes into account the systematic position of the animals, the duration of their intermolt periods, fecundity and other indices in relation to environmental factors. The loss of matter and energy with reproduction and molting(studied for different... |
