Intake, nutrients digestibility and nitrogen balance of elephant grass silages with mango by-product addition R. Bras. Zootec.
Rêgo,Margareth Maria Teles; Neiva,José Neuman Miranda; Rêgo,Aníbal Coutinho do; Cândido,Magno José Duarte; Alves,Arnaud Azevêdo; Lôbo,Raimundo Nonato Braga.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the nutritive value of elephant grass silages with increasing levels of dried mango by-product (DMB). Five addition levels were studied (0, 4, 8, 12 and 16%) using 20 rams, in a randomized complete design with five treatments (addition levels) and four replications. Dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), ether extract (EE), total carbohydrates (TC), non-fibrous carbohydrates (NFC) intake and digestibility were evaluated, as well as the total digestible nutrients (TDN) and the silage nitrogen balance (NB). Mango by-product addition did not influence the DM, CP and TC intakes, the TDN level or the OM, CT and NFC digestibilities. On the...

Nutrition value of silage from corn hybrids produced in Mato Grosso, State was evaluated. A randomized block design was used with 23 treatments (hybrids) and three replications. The study used hybrids from different seed companies. Fodder was stored in PVC pipes at a density of 600 kg of green mass m-³. The silos were opened 90 days after ensiling, and the following variables were studied: pH, dry matter (DM), ammoniacal nitrogen (N-NH3), crude protein (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), total digestible nutrients (TDN) and minerals (Ca, P, K and Mg). Rates were estimated for dry matter intake (DMI), dry matter digestibility (DM), net energy for maintenance (NEm), gain (NEg) and lactation (EL). All the characteristics were...

Chemical composition and fermentative losses of mixed sugarcane and pigeon pea silage Animal Sciences
Pereira, Djalma Silva; Lana, Rogério de Paula; Carmo, Davi Lopes do; Costa, Yanna Karoline Santos da.
Adding legumes to sugarcane silage is a strategy used to improve silage quality and reduce losses. This study’s objective was to evaluate the chemical composition and fermentation profile of silages sugarcane and pigeon pea. A completely randomized design was used, with five treatments and four replications. The treatments consisted of sugarcane silage with increasing pigeon pea proportions (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%). The forages were ensiled in experimental microsilos that remained closed for 60 days. Their chemical compositions were evaluated by determining the pH value and dry matter, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin content. Fermentation profiles were evaluated by determining the effluent,...

Ruminal degradation of elephant grass silages added with faveira pods Animal Sciences
Garcez, Bruno Spindola; Santos, Claudiane Morais dos; Nicolini, Cicero; Machado, Francisco Araújo; Macedo, Ernando de Oliveira; do Ó, Alan Oliveira.
The objective of this study was to evaluate in situ ruminal degradability of elephant grass silages with addition of 8, 16 and 24% of faveira pods in experimental silos of 100x50 mm, equipped with bunsen valves. The content of crude protein (cp) and neutral detergent fiber (ndf) were determined on a dry matter basis. To evaluate the in situ degradability of dm, cp and ndf, nylon bags containing 4 g sample were incubated in the rumen of three fistulated cattle for 6, 24 and 72h. The dm and cp content of elephant grass silages increased (p < 0.05) from 8% inclusion associated with a higher concentration of constituents in faveira pods (77.25 and 9.61% dm). The ndf fraction reduced 10.91% (p < 0.05) when adding 24% pods. The potential degradation (pd)...

Losses and nutritional value of elephant grass silage with inclusion levels of cottonseed meal - doi: 10.4025/actascianimsci.v35i2.13736 Animal Sciences
Viana, Pablo Teixeira; Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia; Teixeira, Fábio Andrade; Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia; Pires, Aureliano José Vieira; Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia; Carvalho, Gleidson Giordano Pinto de; Universidade Federal da Bahia; Figueiredo, Mauro Pereira de; Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia; Santana Junior, Hermógenes Almeida de; Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia.
The experiment was conducted to evaluate losses and nutritive value of elephant grass silage containing increasing levels of cottonseed meal. The experimental design was completely randomized, with five treatments: 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28% inclusion of cottonseed meal, and four replications. The material was chopped and packed in PVC silos and stored for 80 days. The pH and dry matter (DM), crude protein, lignin and ether extract of the silages increased linearly with the addition of cottonseed meal, while the levels of acid detergent insoluble nitrogen, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, cellulose and hemicellulose decreased linearly. The addition of 28% cottonseed meal reduced the in situ disappearance of DM (48h) to values lower than those of...

Silage of rehydrated corn grain Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Mombach,M.A.; Pereira,D.H.; Pina,D.S.; Bolson,D.C; Pedreira,B.C..
ABSTRACT The objective with this study was to evaluate the effect of different levels of water inclusion on the chemical composition and fermentation profiles of reconstituted corn grain silage. The experiment was carried out in a factorial arrangement in a completely randomized design, with three replicates per treatment. Five treatments were evaluated with different levels of water inclusion (% of the natural matter): dry corn grain (control); 90% dry corn grain (DCG) and 10% water; 80% DCG and 20% water; 70% DGC and 30% water; and 60% DCG and 40% water, totaling 45 experimental silos. Inclusion of water in the silage of reconstituted corn grain promoted a reduction in the CP (%) and NDF (%) contents. However, the water increase elevated the NPN/TN...

Nutritional value of sorghum silage of different purposes Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Behling Neto,Arthur; Reis,Rafael Henrique Pereira dos; Cabral,Luciano da Silva; Abreu,Joadil Gonçalves de; Sousa,Daniel de Paula; Sousa,Fabiano Gama de.
ABSTRACT Sorghum is a crop that stands out as an alternative to corn due to lower soil fertility demand and increased tolerance to drought. Lack of information about the qualitative behaviour of sorghum hinders the recommendation of different purpose sorghum cultivars. The goal was to evaluate the chemical composition and in vitro digestibility of different purpose sorghum cultivar silages, at two cropping seasons. The trial was conducted at the Plant Production Department, Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rondônia, Colorado do Oeste campus, and chemical analyses and in vitro incubation were performed at the Laboratory of Animal Nutrition, Federal University of Mato Grosso, Cuiabá campus. The experimental design was a randomized...
