Large benthic foraminifers are considered to be good indicators of shallow marine carbonate environments in fossil series. Over the last 50 years, the palaeoenvironment of Tertiary Nummulites accumulations has been a matter of debate, particularly because of difficulties in interpreting these deposits, and in this way, the absence of analogues in present-day seas does not help. The aim of this paper is to insight the different ways Nummulites tests and clasts may accumulate according to their hydrodynamic behaviour. Applying the clumped isotope (Δ47) thermometer to foraminifer microfossils offers the potential to significantly improve paleoclimate reconstructions, owing to its insensitivity to the isotopic composition of seawater (unlike traditional oxygen isotope (δ18O) analyses). However, the extent to which primary Δ47 signatures of foraminiferal calcites can be overprinted during diagenesis is not well known. Here, we present Δ47 data as well as high-resolution (∼10 kyr) δ18O and δ13C middle Eocene time series, measured on benthic and planktic foraminifera from ODP/IODP Sites 1408, 1409, 1410, 1050, 1260 and 1263 in the Atlantic Ocean. Eocene crabs (Crustacea, Brachyura) from Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles Naturalis

Recently discovered crabs from the Middle to Upper Eocene of northern Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles, include well-preserved carapaces of Montezumella rutteni Van Straelen, originally described from an incomplete holotype. The more comprehensive description of this species provided herein includes documentation of the first attributable left cheliped of Montezumella. From the same locality, Ocalina sublevis sp. nov. considerably extends the known geographic range of this genus. Both of these Tethyan decapod genera apparently migrated west from the Mediterranean region during the Eocene. Pteropods (Mollusca, Euthecosomata) from the Early Eocene of Rotterdam (The Netherlands) Naturalis

A borehole was drilled at Rotterdam in 1955 as a demonstration during the E55 exhibition. Holoplanktonic molluscs (pteropods) were found to be present in the interval 504.5-655.0 m below rotary table (= RT). The upper sample of Middle Eocene (Lutetian) age yielded just a few unidentifiable limacinids. The section between 507.5-607.0 m, of Early Eocene (Ypresian) age, yielded poorly preserved pteropods and demonstrated that the complete interval belongs to pteropod zone 9. Apart from the most abundant species, Camptoceratops priscus, which is the index taxon of pteropod zone 9, the section yielded Heliconoides mercinensis and Limacina taylori, which are known to accompany the index species. Munida casadioi (Schweitzer & Feldmann, 2000) from the Eocene of the Bariloche area, Patagonia (Argentina) Naturalis

New material forces a reconsideration of Austromunida casadioi Schweitzer & Feldmann, 2000. Originally the type species of a new genus, we find that this is only a species of the genus Munida Leach, 1820.

A new stem fossil characid (Teleostei: Ostariophysi) from the Eocene-Oligocene of southeastern Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology

A new characiform is herein described from the Eocene-Oligocene sediments exposed in the Aiuruoca basin, in southern Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Recently, two other characid species were described for this same fossil level: †Paleotetra aiuruoca and †Paleotetra entrecorregos. The holotype of this new characiform is represented by an articulated specimen preserved as part and counterpart, in which the most anterior part of the head is missing, including the jaws. Eocene sediment supply in western Belgium as determined through heavy mineral distribution OMA

The distribution of heavy minerals in Middle to Upper Eocene deposits of western Belgium is discussed with reference to ternary diagrams based on density (<3.4; 3.4-4.2; >4.2) and mineralogical composition (ubiquist, parametamorphic and garnet-epidote-amphibole-pyroxene groups). A corresponding diamond diagram is used to interpret the transport mode and the energy of the sedimentary environment.The Aalter Formation (middle Eocene), which was deposited in a quiet to turbulent setting, contains high amounts of ubiquists, parametamorphic minerals and garnets, with a minor epidote and amphibole content.
