| Frutos de manga (Mangifera indica L.) variedade Keitt, colhidos em estádio pré-climatérico, receberam tratamento com 500 e 1.000 ppm de Ethrel (com exceção da testemunha), sendo submetidos a determinações de carboidratos solúveis, vitamina C, proteínas e umidade, de acordo com amostragens realizadas 3, 6, 9 e 16 dias pós-colheita. Os resultados obtidos, revelaram que o Ethrel não excerceu nenhuma influência nas características químicas dos frutos e que, somente em termos de carboidratos solúveis e vitamina C, os frutos mostraram alterações durante a maturação. |

| A aplicação de etileno e do 1-metilciclopropeno (1-MCP) têm efeitos marcantes sobre a abscisão e a longevidade em vaso das inflorescências de esporinha (Consolida ajacis). O etileno acelerou a abscisão das flores em concentrações iguais ou superiores a 1,0 mg L-1 de Ethrel quando pulverizado por duas horas em intervalos de 30 minutos. As concentrações de 100 e 1.000 mg L-1 de Ethrel induziram imediata abscisão das flores, reduzindo a longevidade de 4,4 dias nas flores-controle para 1,8 e 1,2 dias respectivamente. O tratamento com 1-MCP (0,5 g m-3 de SmartFreshTM) foi eficiente em retardar o início da abscisão das flores, mesmo quando 100 mg L-1 Ethrel foi pulverizado imediatamente após a aplicação do 1-MCP. | Jatropha curcas L. is a versatile crop since all its plant material is brought to use either as energy source, industrial or medicinal purpose. Several studies are ongoing in different parts of the world to optimize, enhance and exploit the growth, fruiting cycle and different developmental stages of the plant so that the economic yield of the plants can be utilized to the fullest limits. | Preharvest application of ethephon, a compound that releases ethylene when hydrolyzed, can anticipate and standardize mango harvesting. In this study, the effects of different doses of ethephon, applied at preharvest, on harvest anticipation of 'Ubá' mango were evaluated. On the 17th week after anthesis, 25 mango trees, five per treatment, were sprayed with ethephon at 0, 250, 500, 750 and 1000mg L-1, plus 0.5% of mineral oil. Five fruits from each plant were harvested daily until full ripening, and evaluated.
