Application of date palm leaves compost (DPLC) and plant growth promoting rhizobacteria(PGPR) for controlling faba bean root rot disease in New Valley, Egypt CIGR Journal
Abdel-Monaim, Montaser.
Abstract This study was designed to investigate the effect of date palm leaves compost (DPLC) individually and/or in combined with plant growth promoting rhizobacteria(PGPR) for controlling faba bean root rot disease caused by Rhizoctonia solani andFusarium solani under greenhouse and field conditions as well as plant growth and yield parameters. The obtained data indicate thatDPLC at different concentrations significantly decreased root rot incidence either under artificial infection in pot or natural infection in field as well as increased growth and yield parameters during growing season 2013-2014. Date palm leaves compost at 8 ton/feddan recorded the highest protection against root rot disease and gave the highest increased of plant growth and yield...

ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK-BASED METHOD TO IDENTIFY FIVE VARIETIES OF EGYPTIAN FABA BEAN ACCORDING TO SEED MORPHOLOGICAL FEATURES REA
Aboukarima,Abdulwahed; El-Marazky,Mohamed; Elsoury,Hussien; Zayed,Moamen; Minyawi,Mamdouh.
ABSTRACT One of the new crop varieties that have been adopted for high yield is the Egyptian faba bean. However, poor-quality faba bean has reduced economic value. Quality evaluation is thus important and can be performed using computational intelligence. We developed a robust method based on morphological features and artificial neural network for quality grading and classification of Egyptian faba-bean seeds, covering five varieties: Giza3, Giza461, Misr1, Nobarya1, and Sakha1. Fifteen seed morphological features were then calculated, and artificial neural networks classified faba beans into different varieties. The results indicated an overall classification accuracy of 77.5% was achieved in training phase and it was 100% when testing dataset was used....

Weed control under integrated nutrient management systems in faba bean (Vicia faba) production in Egypt Planta Daninha
El-Metwally,I.M.; Abdelhamid,M.T..
Two field experiments were conducted in two successive seasons, 2005/2006 and 2006/2007, to determine whether management can improve faba bean competitiveness with weeds, thus helping to achieve its yield potential. The experiment included five treatments, composed of organic and mineral fertilizers, alone and mixed at different rates, along with a control and six weed control treatments, including oxadiargyl, prometryn, hand hoeing treatments alone or mixed with the herbicides, and a nonweeded treatment (control). The herbicide treatments were not superior to the two hand-hoeing treatments. Using compost favored growth and yield of faba bean more than of weeds. Adding fertilizer also improved most yield parameters. Application of compost alone or combined...

Physiological response of vicia faba to prohexadione-calcium under saline conditions Planta Daninha
Bekheta,M.A.; Abdelhamid,M.T.; El-Morsi,A.A..
Changes in the activities of oxidative enzymes (indole acetic acid oxidase, peroxidase and catalase), endogenous hormones (gibberellic acid (GA3), indole acetic acid (IAA), abscisic acid (ABA) and cytokinins (AsZeatin), photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and carotenoids), total carbohydrates, total soluble sugars, amino acid proline and vegetative growth parameters were used as indicators to explain the physiological role of the growth retardant prohexadione-calcium on Vicia faba seedlings 40 days after sowing under salinity stress for 30 days. The obtained results show that soaking faba bean seeds prior to sowing at different concentrations of prohexadione-calcium (0, 10, 20 and 30 ppm) significantly increased the activities of indole...

Cover cropping system and mulching can shape soil microbial status in fruit orchards Scientia Agricola
Cruz,Andre Freire; Pires,Marcio de Carvalho; Nascimento,Lennon Kaique Beda do; Ramos,Maria Lucrecia Gerosa; Oliveira,Sebastiao Alberto; Blum,Luiz Eduardo Bassay; Yamanishi,Osvaldo Kiyoshi.
ABSTRACT The use of cover crop in agricultural fields has been well elucidated, especially regarding nitrogen fixation from legume crops and their function as weed protection. Furthermore, to cover crops can benefit the soil microbial community. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the benefits of mulching and cover cropping systems on soil microbial growth and activity, and their effects on plant mineral nutrition in pomelo (Citrus maxima ) and macadamia ( Macadamia integrifolia ) orchards. The treatments included: 1) control [Glyphosate herbicide (Roundup at 4 l per ha)], 2) manual weed control, 3) mulching with dead leaves from their respective trees (macadamia and pomelo), 4) millet, 5) faba bean, 6) millet + faba bean. All the treatments were...
