Expression of Msx1 and Dlx1 during Dumbo rat head development: correlation with morphological features Genet. Mol. Biol.
Katerji,Suhair; Vanmuylder,Nathalie; Svoboda,Michal; Rooze,Marcel; Louryan,Stéphane.
The Dumbo rat possesses some characteristics that evoke several human syndromes, such as Treacher-Collins: shortness of the maxillary, zygomatic and mandibular bones, and low position of the ears. Knowing that many homeobox genes are candidates in craniofacial development, we investigated the involvement of the Msx1 and Dlx1 genes in the Dumbo phenotype with the aim of understanding their possible role in abnormal craniofacial morphogenesis and examining the possibility of using Dumbo rat as an experimental model for understanding abnormal craniofacial development. We studied the expression of these genes during craniofacial morphogenesis by RT-PCR method. We used Dumbo embryos at E12 and E14 and included the Wistar strain as a control. Semi-quantitative...

Face and Neck Development in Vertebrates International Journal of Morphology
Meruane,Manuel; Smok,Carolina; Rojas,Mariana.
The embryonic development of the facial area, neck, nasal, oral and pharyngeal cavities with glands, involves growth and fusion of multi-dimensional processes. There is involvement of elements from the embryo-derived local 3 layers cells further neural crest derived cells from the neighbors rhombomeres. The neural crest cells are involved in the formation of local skeleton, among other structures. The study of evolution from jawless vertebrates shows us how Hox genes are expressed in different species, and how this determines the formation of different structures. The following review contemplate some morphological, molecular and evolutionary basis of facial and neck development, with emphasis on mammals with an epilogue concerning to the face and neck...

MIYOSHI, Masafumi; NISHIMURA, Maki; ASAI, Hiroshi; MIYAHARA, Kazuro.
This study was delineated to explore the possibility of using three-dimensional ultrasonography in small animal practice. In a 6-year-old pregnant beagle bitch with eight feti, we tried to visualize the feti faces with three-dimensional ultrasonography by scanning with a transabdominal three-dimensional probe every two to three days until parturition. At each date of examination, Three-dimensional sonographic images of the feti faces were...
