| The objective of this study was to characterize the beef cattle farming profile in the State of Piauí for inference about the zootechnical record of animals for insertion into a traceability system. Data were collected through a semi-structured multiple choice questionnaire applied to 400 cattle breeders in all microregions of the state, in May and November 2012. The questions contained the following indicators: profile of the property and the breeder, herd conditions and technical conditions on herd registration. | ABSTRACT: This study investigated the engagement of women in animal husbandry in agroecological transitions scenarios and reflects on the advancements and challenges encountered in overcoming gender inequalities in rural areas. Semi-structured interviews and participant observation were conducted in nine properties in three municipalities in the region of Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais State. Women are involved in husbandry of different animal species, and participate in the management, processing, and marketing of products, contributing to food diversification, self-consumption, and income generation. | ABSTRACT: Our objective was to evaluate the morphological pattern of colonization by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) as well as to study the microbiological activity of the soil on family farms where Barbados cherry was cultivated. | With the objective to stimulate the use of irrigation and the electric energy fee reduction during night time program granted by the 2004 Federal law, the Government of the state of Paraná, Brazil launched the Night Irrigation Program - NPI. | This article deals with the relationship between family farming, ethical-cultural values, solidarity, agroecological practice and good living. Initially, a reflection on the possible impacts of capitalist development on the category of family farmers is presented. After that, the existing relationship between solidarity economy and family agriculture is approached and, in the sequence, solidarity and agroecological family production style are correlated with the objective of living well. | Resumo: A maioria dos sistemas de produção em prática no trópico semi-árido brasileiro pela agricultura familiar apresenta baixa ou nenhuma sustentabilidade, devido ao uso de tecnologias quase sempre agressivas ao ecossistema. Como consequência, observa-se, nos sertões nordestinos degradação ambiental generalizada, baixa produtividade das atividades agrícolas, pastoris e madeireiras, inviabilização da agricultura, queda da qualidade devida e êxodo rural acentuado. | O técnico Nilton de Brito Cavalcanti, da Embrapa Semiárido, há mais de duas décadas realiza pesquisas com imbu, como prefere chamar a espécie nativa da Caatinga. Ao longo desse tempo, reuniu um grande acervo de informações, que detalham o crescimento vegetativo e a produção das plantas, além das que foram recolhidas em estudos de cadeia produtiva e do potencial agroindustrial. | Agricultura familiar é aquela praticada por pequenos proprietários rurais, com mão-de-obra do núcleo familiar e cultivo diversificado em diferentes sistemas de produção, destinado ao consumo da própria família e/ou a comercialização, sendo, em geral, livres de insumos químicos. São, evidentemente, agricultores familiares, também os agricultores tradicionais que somam a estes aspectos o conhecimento tradicional.
