Metriona elatior Klug é potencial candidato para o controle biológico de Solanum viarum Dunal (joá-bravo), pois as larvas e adultos se alimentam de suas folhas e têm baixa taxa de dispersão. A especificidade é um forte requisito para a adequabilidade de um organismo como agente de controle biológico, especialmente pela estratégia inundativa. Desse modo, a preferência alimentar do adulto desse inseto em laboratório foi avaliada em 14 híbridos de Solanum melogena Linnaeus (berinjela). A criação estoque foi mantida em laboratório, com os indivíduos se alimentando de folhas do joá-bravo. Response of the galling insect Aciurina trixa Curran (Diptera: Tephritidae) to host plant quality Anais da SEB

Female host plant selection, oviposition behavior, and offspring performance of the gall-forming tephritid Aciurina trixa Curran (Diptera: Tephritidae) on NPK-fertilized and control plants of Chrysothamnus nauseosus hololeucus Pall. (Britton) (Asteraceae) were studied in northern Arizona, USA. There was no statistically significant difference in the proportion of females that selected control versus fertilized plants, and between the time to accept control versus treatment plants. Females laid fewer eggs and spent a longer time ovipositing on control plants than on treatment plants. Biology of nymphs of Rhodnius robustus Larrousse, 1927 (Hemiptera, Rreduviidae), fed on pigeon or on swiss mouse blood in laboratory conditions BJB

The duration of the life cycle of Rhodnius robustus Larrousse, 1927 as well as the mortality rate of each nymphal instar were studied comparing groups fed on pigeon or on mouse blood weekly or fortnightly. This species showed a better development and lower mortality rate when fed on swiss mouse. The intervals between feedings apparently did not have influence on the shortening of the cycle. We suggest that laboratory colonies and experiments with R. robustus are better maintained when these triatomines are fed on swiss mouse.

Within plant distribution of Anthonomus grandis (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) feeding and oviposition damages in cotton cultivars Ciência e Agrotecnologia

The feeding and oviposition behavior of boll weevil in new cotton cultivars is essential for an adequate management. The objective of this study was to evaluate the vertical distribution of squares punctured for feeding and oviposition of the pest in the cultivars NuOPAL, DeltaOPAL, FMT-701, FMX-910 and FMX-993, and record the most and least preferred times of feeding and oviposition. The number of squares used for boll weevil feeding and oviposition were evaluated weekly in three parts of plant canopy. Immature stages and phylogenetic importance of Astrapaeus, a rove beetle genus of puzzling systematic position (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Staphylinini) Naturalis

For the first time eggs, larvae and pupae obtained by rearing are described for Astrapaeus, a monotypic West Palearctic rove beetle genus of a puzzling phylogenetic position within the megadiverse tribe Staphylinini. Morphology of the immature stages of Astrapaeus ulmi is compared to that of other members of the tribe and discussed in a phylogenetic context. Contrary to conventional systematics and in accordance with recently developed phylogenetic hypotheses based on morphology of adults, larval morphology supports the non-Quediina affiliation of Astrapaeus. Herbivore attack by Bolax palliata Burmeister is reported on two sympatric bracken species: Pteridium caudatum (L.) Maxon and P. arachnoideum (Kaulf.). Laboratory and field observations revealed a preference for the last of the two species. Available phytochemical information suggests it could be based on differences in concentration of condensed tannins.
