This document provides an overview of the resources that were made available to the IODE Programme during the biennium 2008-2009 (funding provided by UNESCO’s regular programme, contributions to the IOC Trust Fund and Funds-in-Trust, and direct contributions to the IOC Project Office for IODE). The document also provides an overview of expected funding for the biennium 2010-2011 and discusses the staffing of the IOC Project Office for IODE. |

This study examines the portfolio allocation of assets for farm and nonfarm households using the Agricultural Resource Management Survey and the Survey of Consumer Finances. The stylized facts of household finance, including limited participation in equity markets and heterogeneity of asset portfolios, are also confirmed for farm households. However, farm households show fewer differences in participation rates and asset allocation across wealth groups. Probit and conditional regression models indicate that fewer demographic factors affect participation rates and portfolio shares of risky assets for farm than nonfarm households. The Supermarket Chain Simulator is used to train persons about business principles and techniques and in supermarket management. Operating decisions are made about product orders, departmental margins, promotions, advertising, store hours and labor. Financial decisions are made about opening new stores, remodeling, investments and loans. From 2 to 5 firms (teams) compete with one another. Decisions made by one team affect its performance and that of rivals. Results are reported in the form of operating statements, balance sheet, inventory, labor and ratio analyses, market share and competitive report, cash flow report and change in balance sheet accounts. |

Hog producers in Indiana and Nebraska were surveyed about sources of risk, effectiveness of risk management strategies, and prior participation in and desire for additional risk management education. Ownership of hogs by the producer, size of the operation, and age did have significant effects on ratings of both sources of risk and effectiveness of risk management strategies. Probit analysis found age, prior attendance, knowledge and prior use of the tool, level of integration, and concern about price and performance risk have significant effects on interest in further education about production contracts, futures and options, packer marketing contracts, and financial management. |
